Horse Racing Tips – Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at every runner in Saturday’s  Group 1 $600k Vinery Stud Stakes with horse racing tips for the first four. Read on to see how he maps – he has included the potential for a damp track in his thoughts. Good luck!

1. PROWESS (4) 1×331111

T; Roger James & Rob Wellwood / J: Mark Zahra (56kg)

Brilliant staying filly from New Zealand. Has won 6 out of 8 starts, runs very fast time over 2000m and will brain this lot.

2. FIREBURN (6) 12x554x694

T: Gary Portelli / J: Tyler Schiller (56kg)

Gr 1 Golden Slipper winner from last year who showed a glimpse of her best form last start when hitting the front as they turned for home and running a solid 4th in the Gr 2 Phar Lap. Needed that run and interesting to see if she can run this trip out.

3. PAVITRA (9) 5115322×51

T: Team Freedman / J: Chad Schofield (56kg)

This filly is very smart and represents the only real threat to the Kiwi superstar. Ran 2nd in the Gr 1 VRC Oaks last year over 2500m. Since has matured and strolled away to win the Gr 3 KG Classic over a mile by a big margin. Definite quinella bet.

4. POLYGON (12) 5x124511x6

T: Lance Noble / J: Brett Prebble (56kg)

Handy Kiwi filly with Group wins to her credit. Can stay and has won at Gr 2 level this trip. At Aussie debut made good ground late when 6th to Pavitra in KG Classic. Will be running on here.

5. Papillon Club (3)

SCRATCHED

6. SOUL CHOICE (13) 212211

T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/ J: Tim Clark (56kg)

Interesting galloper. Has raced 6 times and not finished further back than 2nd. Led all the way to win the Tasmanian Oaks over 2100m last start but that was nearly 5 weeks ago. Sets the pace here and can keep running.

7. PIEROSSA (2) 29x4211x03

T: Team Snowden  /J: Sam Clipperton (56kg)

Is a classy stayer in the making. Won at Gr 3 level over a mile when last in work and is 3rd up here. So is ready to peak. Came from near last when flying home for 3rd to Pavitra in the 1600m KG Classic last start. On the improve every run.

8. CALL DI (8) 73×134

T: Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou /J: Nash Rawiller  (56kg)

Bred to be a star and has talent. Was 4th when on speed to Pavitra last start in the KG Classic. This may test.

9. SO DAZZLING (5) 5130×82

T; John Sargent/ J: Tom Sherry (56kg)

Is lightly raced but has loads of staying talent. Was eye-catching late when 2nd to Pavitra in the KG Classic over 1600m last start. Can run in the mud too and is 3rd up. Has claims.

10. BYRON BELLE (10) 2479×102

T: John Sargent / J: Tom Marquand (56kg)

Only win was in a maiden over 1250m. Not bred to run this trip out.

11. INFINITIVE (7) 4413615

T: Chris Waller  / J: Kerrin McEvoy (56kg)

Has ability. After winning on a very damp track in weaker grade at Canterbury stepped up to stakes level and was a solid 5th to Pavitra hitting the line hard. Can place.

12. FRANKIE’S ME DAD (11) 8311

T: Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace / J: Brenton Avdulla (56kg)

Won provincial maiden then a provincial Class 1. That’s good but this is Gr 1 level.

13. WHISKY WISDOM (1) 34148

T: Ben Smith / J: Rachel King (56kg)

Only win was provincial maiden in the wet. Beaten 8 lengths by Pavitra last start. Not keen.

14. STORMY WITNESS (14) 52×13

T: Danny Williams / J: Robbie Dolan (56kg)

Won Goulburn maiden then was beaten in the bush over 1650m in a BM 58. No.

Tips:

1. PROWESS,  2. Pavitra, 3. So Dazzling, 4. Fireburn
