So honest and such a quality stayer. Without a doubt he is the best performed runner in this race. And he is super fit and in fine form. Great 3rd in a tougher event last run for instance. The only issue is whether he can give this much weight to his rivals on a bog track? I think he can and will run very well.
T: Phillip Stokes/ J: Kerrin McEvoy (51.5kg)
Brilliant form of late. Up in class here but gee he has been impressive of late in South Australia. He’s won 5 of his past 6 starts and was runner-up in the other race. Brilliantly won the 3200m Adelaide Cup last start easily beating a few of these. Can he perform on a heavy? Not sure but he can run till midnight.
T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott / J: Rachel King (51.5kg)
Looks the logical leader and he has won at this trip. On the quick back-up too after his really impressive, game 2nd in the traditional lead-up race the 2600m Gr 2 Chairman’s last Saturday. Is trained here and will give a tremendous sight with this weight.
T: Joe Pride/ J: Alysha Collett (51kg)
On weights and measures this is the one to beat. He loves the mud. Improves a great deal in fact and last start showed that when carrying more weight than the brilliant Duais but he chased her home into 2nd spot in the Gr 1 Tancred on a heavy over 2400m. Drops 8kg. He is very fit and all the cards have fallen his way.
T: Chris Waller / J: Damian LaneJamie Kah (51kg)
Comes into this with impeccable form winning, and easily winning at that, his past four starts including the 2400m Mornington Cup last start. Seems like he can stay all day and has performed well in the mud. Significantly, Jamie Kah chose him over her recent Adelaide Cup winner Daqiansweet Junior. Hard to beat.
T: Team Hawkes/ J: Willy Pike (51kg)
Interesting galloper. Wont know himself with this light weight and can handle a heavy. Led and burnt in the run home when plodding 5th in the Gr 1 Tancred over 2400m, but does love this track where he won his Gr 1 as a 3YO. Will be handy on speed for a long way.
T: Chris Waller / J: Craig Williams (51kg)
Must be considered. Is a 3000m winner in Europe nd goes great on a heavy track. saying that, he was plain when 7th in the Gr 1 Tancred last start over 2400m. Does drop 8kg and should improve as he has been set for this. Big chance.
T: Danny O’BrienChris Waller/ J: Jay Ford (50.5kg)
Shocked everyone when ridden up on speed in most recent race 0ver 2400m. He won a grinding battle down the straight beating many of these in the Gr 3 Queens Cup. Drops 3kg and looks like he can run all day.
T: Kris Lees/ J: Robbie Dolan (50kg)
Good honest tough stayer who always finishes among the money against his rivals. Was 3rd for instance to Nerve Not Verve in last week’s Gr 2 Chairman’s and drops 2kg. Will be thereabouts.
T: Matt Cumani/ J: Teo Nugent (50kg) half over
Very strong, solid stayer who is always plugging away but was beaten 8 lengths by Crystal Pegasus when they last met and was beaten nearly 4 lengths by Daqiansweet Junior last start. Does meet them a bit better at the weights but probably not enough to make him a winning hope.
T: Chris Waller /J: Kathy O’Hara (50kg)
Is from England and is very smart. Gets in here with no weight and can run all day. Two starts in Australia have both been on heavy tracks for a 2000m win and a great 2nd in the 2400m Gr 3 Queen’s Cup over 2400m last start. Super fit now and looks the one to beat.
T: Rob Blacker / J: Dean Holland (50kg)
Is just a really good, honest try all day galloper who is peaking for this. Won the Bagot hip over 2800m earlier this year, then freshened and his past two starts have been excellent, latest when 2nd in the Gr 2 Adelaide Cup over this trip. Is super fit now, carries no weight and looms large.
T: Chris Waller / J: Damien Thornton (50kg)
English galloper who is owned by the Queen and he comes here with enormous credentials. Just two Aussie races under his belt, the best of them a strong, grinding 3rd in the 2400m Queen’s Cup behind No Compromise. Was on the slowest part of the track that day yet still keep coming. Stakes placed at 2847m and there is a strong sense of timing about him.
T: Team Freedman / J: Brock RyanFred Kersley (50kg)
Can stay but has no heavy form. Did run on for a decent 4th to Nerve Not Verve last week in the 2600m Chairman’s and drops 3kg but was beaten 4 lengths. This may test.
T: Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace/ J: Louise Day (50kg)
Has won 3 races but just doesn’t seem to be racing well enough to warrant a thought in this.
T: Team Hawkes / J: Brock Ryan (50kg)
Looks capable of running a fair race here. is very fit and his efforts say he can stay all day. Ran on when solid 3rd, beaten 3 lengths to Crystal Pegasus in the 2400m Mornington Cup last start and drops 4kg. Will be big odds but can sneak a place.
T: Joe Pride / J: Tyler Schiller (50kg)
Is a stakes winner over 2400m but latest form is woeful for this and not considered.
T: Matt Smith / J: James Innes (50kg)
Has won at this trip but form is bad of late. Wouldn’t win with a head start.
T: Richard Litt/ J: Andrew Gibbons (50kg)
Form is below these and not considered a winning hope.
