Caulfield R8 – $1million G1 Memsie Stakes 1400m
1. I’M THUNDERSTRUCK (9) 311x55226x
T: Mick Price & Michael Kent /J: Mark Zahra (59kg)
So honest and such a quality galloper. Has been known to run handsomely while fresh and resumes here. If he has matured and improved just one length on last prep, he’s the horse to beat. Never runs a bad race and is talented enough. His $6,367,000 in prize money supports that.
2. CASCADIAN (7) 32x315591x
T: James Cummings / J:Blake Shinn (59kg)
Getting on a bit now as he’s an 8YO but you certainly wouldn’t know it. Still the best looking horse in the land and his last race was a Gr 1 success taking him to $4,442,575 in prize money. Trialled very impressively recently too and has always been a dab hand while fresh. Watch market.
3. ALLIGATOR BLOOD (1) 0x4x68x21x
T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/ J: Damien Oliver (59kg)
Star Gr 1 victor who looks a major threat. Certainly been controversial during his career which has netted $2,897,900 for his owners. Went for spell with a Gr 1 win in the 1400m Stradbroke under his belt and reports are that he is flying right now. Exciting to see him back.
4. NONCONFORMIST (4) 502x64122x
T: Grahame Begg/ J: Jordan Childs (59kg)
Lightly raced but heavily gifted Gr 1 level stayer. Ran 2nd in the Caulfield Cup before spell taking his earnings to $1,534,800. Never won at this trip nor first-up and this is a strong field. Later.
5. WESTERN EMPIRE (12) 31111x112x
T: Danny O’Brien / J: Damian Lane (59kg)
Superstar from the west who can do it all. Won at a mile at Gr 1 level before spell but has won from 1100m to 2400m and has had a change of stable now with Danny O’Brien. Can sit up near speed and be very competitive late. Winner of $1,464,000 in stakes money thus far. Has strong claims.
6. CALLSIGN MAV (14) 3x117x280x
T: Danny O’Brien/ J: Jamie Mott (59kg)
Interesting galloper. Gr 1 winner in NZ but in 4 Aussie starts hasn’t;y shown he’s up to this level. Probably struggles again although he will be on the lead for a lot of the race.
7. ELEPHANT (11) x12183x5x8
T: Emma-Lee & David Browne/ J: Dan Moor (59kg)Â
Another Kiwi who goes well there but not as well here. Has won at Gr 3 level in Aussie over 1500m but well beaten in mud easier race two weeks back when resuming. Not keen.
8. ZEYREK (8) 6443x4147x
T: Team Hawkes / J: Damien Thornton (59kg)
Classy stayer on the way up but never won under 2000m and should get run off his legs here.
9. DRAGON LEAP (2) 4x8x5x34x2
T: Â Lance O’Sullivan & Andrew Scott/ J: Michael Dee (59kg)
Kiwi with speed but these will test him. Was 2nd when resuming over 1100m in NZ last start. Beaten 5 lengths by Callsign Mav late last year and he isn’t rated a hope here, so, no.
10. LIGHTSABER (6) 6414x4020x
T: Peter Moody / J: Luke Nolen (58.5kg)Â
Very underrated galloper but has his flaws too as he isn’t consistent. If he runs his best, he will finish right over the top of these but can he do it first up? He has won $785,000 in prize money but never won first up. Watch betting.
11. ILLATION (13) 111x
T: Mick Price & Michael Kent /J: Jamie Kah (58.5kg)
What a baptism of fire for this talented mare. Has had just 3 starts, won them all and earned $135,000 in stakes money. But all 3 races were vastly inferior to this. Has a devastating turn of foot at the end of her races but up to the silk drawer level here. And is resuming. Worth watching though.
12. TOFANE (3) 3427x1382x
T: Michael Moroney/ J: Jye McNeil (57kg)
Superstar at this level on her day and has won 4 x Gr 1 races earning $3,692,000 in prize money – all at this trip. Is potent while fresh too. Loves this track. Big show.
13. DUAIS (10) 610x96117x
T: Ed Cummings / J: Josh Parr  (57kg)
Smart mare who has won 3 x Gr 1 races but at this level does prefer it a bit longer. Banked $2,737,400 for her owners thus far. Resumes here off 2 low key trials. May pay to watch her this race.
14. SNAPDANCER (5) 39x211012x
T: Ciaran Maher & David Eustace / J: Ethan Brown (57kg)
Interesting galloper. Is a Gr 1 winner over 1200m and has earned $1,425,600 for her owners from just 19 runs. Will be hard to beat here as she is good while fresh and resumes here following a strong trial. Is the likely leader and is very hard to pass when on song. Watch betting.
