Horse Racing Tips – Group 1 Darley Sprint

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at every runner in Saturday’s Group 1  Flemington Darley Sprint Classic with horse racing tips for the first four. Read on to see how he maps and assesses the race. Good luck, punters!

1. NATURE STRIP (2) 72x121x121

T: Chris Waller /J: James McDonald (58.5kg)

Champion sprinter. May be the best over this trip in the world. Should win this comfortably.

2. STREETS OF AVALON (1) 1167×28754

T: Shane Nichols / J: Zac Spain (58.5kg)

Good sprinter. Not far away when 4th at Gr 1 level last start behind Jonker. Should be battling away for a place.

3. SPLINTEX  (5) x40168x414

T: Mark Newnham / J: Kerrin McEvoy (58.5kg)

Scored a narrow but exciting win here over this trip two starts back. Ran useful time. Isn’t in the same class as Nature Strip but is strong enough to run a place here.

4. SAMIZDAT (3) 4925×13095

T: Chris & Mick Gangemi/ J: Damian Lane (58.5kg)

Former good West Australian sprinter who has had three starts in the east and failed to show up. Not keen.

5. SEPTEMBER RUN  (4) x2048x3766

T: Chris Waller / J: Craig Newitt (58.5kg)

This mare loves this track. But her form hasn’t been up to what she has always promised. Disappointed last start when 6th in a Gr 3 over 1100m last start. Is better placed this trip. Place.

6. BELLA NIPOTINA (6) 336×312132

T: Patrick Payne / J:Michael Dee (56kg)

Interesting galloper. Good mare who seems to be getting better every run. Beaten a head when 3rd in the gr 3 Schillaci over 1100m and then last start over 1200m in the Manikato at Gr 1 level, behind Jonker. Was coming hard at the end. Must be a threat here.

7. SWATS THAT (9) 12x358x805

T: Trent Busuttin & Nat Young / J: Nash Rawiller (56kg)

Hard to imagine her winning this when she has been unplaced at her past five starts all in weaker grade. Beaten nearly 3 lengths at gr 3 level last start.

8. SHAQUERO (8) 721610×579

T: Robbie Griffiths & Mat de Kock / J: Luke Currie (56kg)

Never sighted at Gr 1 level against own age last start. Can produce a big run but this looks above him.

9. RANCH HAND (7) 35x200x174

T: Danny O’Brien / J: Damien Lane (56kg)

Very smart young sprinter. And is getting better with racing. Ran a cracking 4th in very fast time to his stablemate Home Affairs at Gr 1 level last start. This is harder but will be thereabouts.

Tips: 1. NATURE STRIP,  2. Ranch Hand, 3. Bella Nipotina, 4. Splintex
