Flemington  R7 – $1.5million Coolmore Stud Stakes 1200m
1. SHAQUERO (2) x721610x57
T: Chris Waller /J: Luke Nolen (57kg)
Really good sprinter against his cohort last season but hasn’t shown that zip this time around. Beaten out of a place both starts. Looks to be tested this time.
2. ARTORIUS (4) 2116×2243
T: Team Freedman/ J: Glen Boss (57kg)
Gee this is a good, explosive racehorse and running in Melbourne is his go. He will get back but he is so fit, and so fast late he looks a real contender. Providing he finds a lane. Given he performs better in Victoria than Sydney, those runs in NSW were outstanding against probably better rivals. Respect him.
3. INGRATIATING Â (8) 21253×1293
T: James Cummings/ J: Daniel Moor (57kg)
What do you make of this bloke? Thrashed here in a weaker race when expected to win two runs back, then ran a blinder at Gr 1 level last start. On his day he is one of the best 3YOs around. So if this is his day he has strong claims.
4. IN THE CONGO (12) 122121
T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott / J: Craig Williams (57kg)
Smart galloper who may well be a super The Everest type galloper of the future. Just goes out, leads and fights on. Must have huge lungs. Very few horses can boast a win over Anamoe and he does at his latest start. Freshened for this and might just be too fast for all of them.
5. HOME AFFAIRS (13) 2138×19
T: Chris Waller / J: Linda Meech (57kg)
Has the ability and physique to test these. He is 3rd up and his 9th in The Everest last start was a better run than it looked. Won brilliantly first-up and is well up to this grade. Will be right in this finish.
6. PAULELE (6) 1x671x1221
T: Chris Waller / J: James McDonald (57kg)
Super galloper might well be the king of the 3YO sprinters. Will allow the speed to unfold, then gather speed himself. By the clock tower he will be in full flight and he will be coming at the leaders very hard, probably to well late. Big big danger.
7. KALLOS (15) 441×11
T: James Cummings / J: Fred Kersley (57kg)
Here we have the x-factor horse. How good is he? We just don’t know but will after this race. He gave us some indication last start with his first go at stakes level and winning in good time here over 1100m. Gives the impression, even though he races on the speed, that this trip will suit and he is on a massive improvement curve.
8. RANCH HAND (16) 135x200x17
T: Chris Waller / J: Brett Prebble (57kg)
Enigmatic galloper who shocked at big odds with a powerful come-from-behind win over Ingratiating here over 1100m, then beaten comfortably by Kallos last start. Can place at big odds.
9. EXTREME WARRIOR (9) 2x25x11
T: Mick Duel & Michael Kent / J: Jye McNeil (57kg)
Gave the flying Profiteer a cold last start at his first go at 1200m. Just blew by him late to win the Gr 3 Blue sapphire. Is lightly raced but is getting faster every run. Must be considered. Watch market.
10. EXTREME FLIGHT (3) 36111
T: Team Freedman /J: Damien Thornton (57kg)
Smart colt who is right in this. Is coming back in trip here after winning past two over 1400m, latest at stakes level. Has won 3 on the bounce and they may go a tad too fast for him here but does have talent.
11. SWORD OF STATE (7) 13111×75
T: Jamie Richards / J: Luke Currie (57kg)
Star NZ colt who is slowly getting better with every start since coming here. On pace when useful 5th, beaten 4 lengths by Paulele last start. Rough place hope.
12. BRUCKNER Â (1) 30×113
T: Ciaran Maher & David Eustace / J: John Allen (57kg)
Has improved out of sight this campaign. Resumed with a narrow maiden win at Kembla, then shocked at big odds narrowly beating Artorius this trip at Caulfield before a handy 3rd to Kallos here over 1100m. Should be punching away here too.
13. OVERPASS (5) 211140×84
T: Bjorn Baker / J: Craig Newitt (57kg)
Solid colt from Sydney who has won 3 races thus far and not far away when strong finishing 4th to Paaulele Gr 2 at Randwick this trip last start. Still looks tested.
14. MARINE ONE (11) 3x567x11
T: Ciaran Maher & David Eustace / J: Dean Yendall (57kg)
This bloke has improved a great deal since coming to the Maher and Eustace yard. Scored an easy win at swan Hill in a maiden then heavily backed when comfortable winner over 1000m at the Valley. Harder here as extra 200m will test.
15. MINSK MOMENT (17) 1×13
T: Chris Waller / J: Michael Dee (57kg)
Consistent galloper. Gets back and runs on. Is pretty smart two winning first two starts against peers then up in grade yet 3rd in the Blue Sapphire to Extreme Warrior. This may be too hard though.
16. BATTLETON (10) 112
T: Bjorn Baker / J: Rachel King (57kg)
Is fit and is ready to run on well. Although grade may test. Won his opening 2 starts then made good ground late when 2nd in Sydney at stakes level to Mazu. Place at very best.
17. GIMMIE PAR (14) 2x1x14
T: Peter Moody / J: Blaike McDougall (55kg)
Is the only filly engaged and fillies do go well this race. Won two in a row, one at Gr 3 level before useful 4th to Kallos last start over 1100m. Place at very best. Bound to be flying home.
