Horse Racing Tips – Canterbury 14th July

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews Wednesday’s Canterbury meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 6 races. Good luck, punters!

Track Condition: Heavy 8

Rail Position: True, entire circuit

The thing about ALMIGHTY RISING is that he will be off and gone, no mud being sent back into his face as he is the pace in the race. The other thing about him is will have improved from his first-up win in weaker grade last start.  Big, big show.

CONSTRUCT has had one start this time up and ran boldly, getting to the line strongly for 3rd placing. This is slightly harder but he should be fitter and faster too.  Is in a stable that is in form and he was backed overnight.

LARKSPUR RUN is seriously talented and did win a good maiden just before spelling. Has come back it seems with a runaway trial win. Watch market. Tough assignment first up but looks right up to it.

Tip: LARKSPUR RUN

Lots of chances here. The bottom weight here TIGHT ROPES looks talented enough but is enigmatic. Is yet to win a race from past 8 runs but hits the line hard on her day. Is 2nd up here but was 2nd in this grade last campaign. Top chance.

SMARTY LEE won a trial then ran a great 4th this grade here on debut beaten 4 lengths. Did finish closer when 3rd at Hawkesbury last start. Is working towards a win.

HEAD LEGISLATOR has ability and is resuming here. Has on 3 occasions been placed and does it by catching the eye. Gets back and runs home very hard. Won. recent trial. Keep safe. Terrific contest.

Tip: HEAD LEGISLATOR

What will serve this brush horse MR MAGICAL so well in this is that he is in tremendous form winning his past 3 runs, but he’s down them all on pretty wet tracks. He’s not scared to go to the front and guts it out in the. mud. Gets a 3kg allowance too.

SELEQUE will track him though as she is in form also and very tough. I think she will let him lead but she too is a mudlark. All the progeny of Deep Field are she can skate winning on a heavy last start in this exact grade. Big show.

HIBISCUS LADY was just on a length behind Seleque last start when 4th and meets her 1.5kg better.  Much fitter now so looms large.

Tip: HIBISCUS LADY

Tough race here with a few hopes. This looks similar to the race that NO LAUGHING MATTER won last start. And last campaign once he found form he kept winning. I suspect he leads these for a very long way today.

CENTIMENTAL got home very gamely last start when 2nd in this grade. Is very fit and she is weighted to be a major factor here. Has useful wet track form also.

YESMEENA rocketed home in the mud from last of nine on the bend when 3rd to her stablemate No laughing Matter last start and meets him 2kg better.  Is on the improve every run.

Tip: YESMEENA

Good race. EL COHETE is 4th up here and is in the right race after a solid 7th when resuming and an even better placing this grade twice since. Did win 2nd up last campaign. Looks perfectly placed in this. Strong claims if you overlook last start failure.

TAMERLANE is a trier and being 4th up here should rattle home. Probably looks for good ground out wide as they turn. Ran a close up 4th this company last start and is fitter. Will sit back and be competitive late.

TURNSTYLE is very in and out but this is the in run so expect a bold showing.  Respect.

Tip: TAMERLANE

Interesting race because of all the scratchings but on paper it looks a walk in the park for BETHENCOURT. Obviously the state of the track will play a role but he is strong, has won on a soft surface and is in career best form.

RULES DON’T APPLY won two starts back, in an easier race and failed last start but is fit and tough.  Late in the day is a worry but he has Jay Mac on top and his 7th last start wasn’t actually all that bad. Chance.

At the weights MACCOMO has strong claims. Did place in town on a Saturday two starts back and again last run midweek. Problem he has is that he’s a leader and so is MARGIE BEE. They may cut at each other.

Tip: BETHENCOURT

 

The thing about SAVIGNE here is that she is about the best horse in the field but on a heavy at the end of the day she has to lump the most weight around. And from an inside gate which won’t help. Has the class though so have in your numbers.  Has won on a heavy.

JUNGLE BOOK is backing up from a failure last week but track suited leaders and he was last for home. Loves the mud and is better suited this trip anyway.

SILENT AGENDA is up in grade but is very consistent and should be bobbing at the end with light weight.
