Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews Saturday’s Rosehill meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 9 races. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Heavy 9
Rail Position: +3m, entire circuit
TYCOONIST is in great form and is very fit. Carried 58kg when placed this grade and last start just missed in a slightly stronger race. Tougher here as with 60kg on a heavy track here but is drawn well. Strong claims as the scratchings help.
ZARIYA is a 3YO filly with talent which she showed last start winning a midweek maiden. Hit the line hard then and this is 50m further. Improving every run. Â Big show.
She only won a 2YO maiden last start but the baby of this field, HONEYCREEPER, did it by rushing home hard from a mile back. Is on the improve and could be a big danger.
Tip: TYCOONIST
HELLENISM was disappointing last start. It was a harder race but that 7th was out of character for her as she led and just folded. Is fitter now, down in grade and is 3rd up. Expect improvement. Big show.
KNIGHT DRIVER is pretty handy and has a lot of speed. Has won two from two this time up. Good filly who is improving all the time. Loves it wet too. Watch the market.
LADY RIVER is similar to Knight Driver. Except she likes to get back and run on. Won two from two this time up and should with no weight dash home late.
Tip: KNIGHT DRIVER
BROWN THOMAS is trained to run all day. Not much dash about him but he’s tough and ground home well to win over this trip in the mud last start. Is racing in career best form. That run will improve him and he rates a big show here too.
KAAPFEVER hasn’t won at this trip since February in this grade but does run home hard and his 2nd in the 3200m Stayers Cup here last week was a game effort. Carries 9.5kg more this time but looks the one to beat as he loves it wet.
ADMIT IT is up in class but did show so much heart to win last start before race was taken off him in the weight room. Is very fit. Respect all that. Chance.
Tip: BROWN THOMAS
VRENELI has had one campaign and in it he won 3 races from 4 starts, including one on a heavy 8 track leading all the way this grade over 1250m. Is a strong sprinter on the rise. Resumes here and will be there for a long while.
SIXGUN is 4th up and is ready to produce his best. Gets the gate to help and has a lot of speed also. Chose to sit off speed and finished hard with 62kg last start in a BM 64 when 2nd to rival KINLOCH. Could do the same here.
IBARAKI is drawn poorly but is also unbeaten and is the query horse. Looked strong winning win debut in town. Up in class here but may just be up to it.
Tip: 1. SIXGUN
Tough race. The very first Midway race and there are many chances as it’s an even affair. Top weight KOSCIUSKO resumes here but does so on a wet track which he loves. Gets a 3kg allowance and is very fast. Â Watch betting moves.
CATAPULT is one of three saddled by Richard Litt and also ugh resuming looks the best of them. Strung together a pair of wins before spelling in similar grade. Â Big show.
OUR BELLAGIO MISS is very consistent and always puts in. Was a strong 4th when resuming and you’d imagine she strips fitter this afternoon.
Tip: 1. KOSCISUKO
GRAND PIANO does look nicely placed. Has been runner-up at past two starts and in a much stronger race last start he charged late from near last to fail by a head. Super fit and looks a good bet.
OSCAR ZULU is hitting the line extremely well and as such is charging through his grades. Won past two. Up in class here but is very fit and honest. If he runs up to his best he is in this finish.
CISCO BAY is also a consistent animal. Won like a smart one in a weaker race when resuming. Just sprinted strongly late. Will hit the wire hard.
Tip: 1. GRAND PIANO
I suspect the in form NYAMI will be in this finish again. He’s won his past two starts at this grade. Gets up on speed and just keeps fighting. Looks to be improving every run although very big weight on a very wet track today will make it hard. He looms large.
LA CHEVALEE was caught behind runners at a crucial stage in the straight last start when 2nd in this grade. Should have won. Drawn wide here so probably stays out in the better ground and should charge late. Better suited this and gets a 2kg allowance. Watch the betting.
O’MUDGEE has been up a good while and is still racing well. Did best in a driving finish this grade last start. Big, big danger.
Tip:Â 1. LA CHAVALEE
What a good contest even though there are 8 scratchings. It really is a shame that dampness worries trainers sooo much. Anyway, watch betting re COGNAC. Hasn’t beaten a runner home at his past two starts but did win a trial recently and gets a welcome 1.5kg allowance. Ticks many boxes on English form. Respect.
VITESSE showed a great return to form in a similar race last start and will get a cushy run here. Needs to find a good bit of the track though once they turn but is very fit.
Be wary of TAKSU. Hasn’t won this time up in four starts to date but is getting very close. Smallish field suits.
Tip: 1. VITESSE
HARPO MARX likes it wet, is extremely honest and ran a bottler in an unsuitable race when resuming. Should appreciate this on many levels and expect him to be tough late.
LACKEEN has drawn wide but at this stage of the day that’s not a bad place to be. If he finds a bit of cover he’s a major player here based on how well he’s run at his past two outings this grade.
WICKLOW has been the find of the winter. Up in class here but he he has won his past three in a style that suggests he may be very progressive. Looks well weighted.
Tip: WICKLOW
I suspect the toppie here INVINCIANO will be a player late. She’s not shown any form in the wet from a few starts but her first-up 4th in a slightly unsuitable race last start says she might be back better than ever. And at her best she looks the best horse. Drawn deep which may help.
CAFE ROYAL steps up in grade but is in sparkling form. Toughed it out in a good race last start showing grit and peak fitness. Big show. Watch the betting.
When ST COVET’S SPIRIT last raced she was beaten a nose by Cafe Royal on a heavy 8 and gets a 3kg turnaround for this where she strips fitter. Big, big danger.
