Horse Racing โ€“ Love It Or Leave It | Sat 26th June

Placing a bet on a favourite โ€“ some punters canโ€™t get enough of them, while others steer clear of them. Racing writer Justin Devine looks at some of the more fancied runners for this weekend’s horse racing and decides if he loves them ๐Ÿ˜ or if he should leave โŽย  them!

Emerging stayer INCENTIVISE is the most interesting runner of the day and I expect him to dominate his rivals in the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup at Eagle Farm. I’M THUNDERSTRUCK looks set to progress through the grades quickly and is the best bet of the day at Caulfield. Import GREAT HOUSE showed plenty at his first Australian prep and if his first-up win is any indication, he looks set for a big campaign. He has a class on his rivals at Rosehill๐Ÿ˜.

MALKOVICH heads to Caulfield for the first time and with the big weight, he will be a sitting shot late in the run. HULK continues to tease his connections and looks set for another minor prize cheque, while ABERDEEN QUEEN will need to improve on her most recent runs to get the prize in the west at Belmont.

Good Luck Punters!

Caulfield R5 – 6. I’m Thunderstruck @ $1.85 ๐Ÿ˜

The Mick Price trained I’M THUNDERSTRUCK was a dominant winner at Sale first up (below) and heads to Caulfield this week having won at the track previously. He has won two from three starts with his only defeat being in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes when he had excuses after a poor getaway. The 3yo looks to have plenty left in the tank and should progress through the grades quickly. Yes please.

Eagle Farm R6 – 4. Incentivise @ $1.45 ๐Ÿ˜

How good is INCENTIVISE? The 4yo has won his last three starts by a combined margin of over 25 lengths including a big win at Ipswich last start (below). He heads to the Peter Moody stable in Melbourne after this week for a tilt at the Cups in the Spring, so you would expect that the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup will be a walk in the park. Bad luck looks like his only danger.

Rosehill R7 – 10. Great House @ $2.50 ๐Ÿ˜

Irish import GREAT HOUSE has had five runs in Australia for two wins and two placings including a strong first-up win last start when he chased strongly to reel in the leaders over 1500m. He showed at his last prep that the longer the race is, the better he gets and the 1800m this week looks ideal. He is unbeaten second-up and can handle the rain-affected going. I’m on.

Caulfield R3 – 1. Malkovich @ $2.70 โŽ

The Bjorn Baker trained MALKOVICH has won five races in Sydney including a strong all the way win at Randwick last start when well backed. There is no doubt that the 3yo will try his heart out on the speed but there are more questions than answers with him this week. Can he find the front from the wide gate? How much energy will he use to find the lead? Can he handle the Melbourne way of going? Will he carry the 61kgs? He is under the odds for mine. Pass.

Belmont R3 – 1. Aberdeen Queen @ $2.50 โŽ

ABERDEEN QUEEN has followed up a strong first-up win with two unplaced runs and will go around as a solid favourite in the West. She looks to do her best racing when fresh and punters are being asked to take around 6/4 on the 4yo mare with 60kgs.ย  It is hard to get enthused with her at the price and with his record. I will be betting around her.

Rosehill R9 – 6. Hulk @ $3.20 โŽ

To HULK or not to HULK? There is no doubt that the 4yo is a good money-spinner for connections but he doesn’t win out of turn. He should have won last start when a fast-finishing second at Randwick over 1000m last start, but that is the story of his career. 13 Placings and only three wins from 26 runs suggests he has the talent but he is expensive to follow. The step up to 1100m will help. Am I falling for him this week? No thanks.
