Form analyst, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Saturday’s meetings, with horse racing tips and analysis for the five best bets of the weekend. Good luck, punters!
Caulfield Race 7 – Might And Power Stakes (Group 1) 2000m
ANAMOE is the best horse in Australia at the moment. He cam back in super form winning the Winx Stakes under a hold then he went to 1600m in the George Main last start and again got the job done despite pulling up lame in the process.
I’m sure Team Godolphin have been working on him overtime and will have him ready for this. Drawn to get the ideal run in behind the speed and expect James McDonald to ease him off heels straightening and drive him home for another Group 1 victory.
Tip: ANAMOE
Caulfield Race 8 – Caulfield Guineas Stakes (Group 1) 1600m
It was hard not to be impressed with the turn-of-hoof that BERKELEY SQUARE showed when finally saw some daylight at Flemington last start when he powered over them late. That was only Listed company but it was the way he delivered the knockout blow that suggests the mile will be ideal for him.
Perfect draw for Craig Williams to maybe sit a little closer with cover and not have to work all that hard up the hill early in the race. If he can produce similar finish he can get away with this.
Tip: BERKELEY SQUARE
Caulfield Race 9 – Toorak Handicap (Group 1) 1600m
I WISH I WIN showed he was above average when he was placed in the NZ Levin Classic before crossing the Tasman and coming to the Peter Moody stable. He was backed as if unbeatable first-up and won accordingly then he went to Hillside and overcame difficulties for another impressive win.
Back out to the mile looks ideal for him and no reason he cannot continue on his unbeaten run in Australia and add a Group 1 to his record.
Tip: I WISH I WIN
Randwick Race 4 – Roman Consul Stakes (Group 2) 1200m
SEJARDEN won last campaign on a Heavy 10 and seemed to relish those conditions. This colt now comes into this race third up now, off 2 nice runs in the Run To Rose and then the Golden Rose.
Looks extremely well suited with a likely Heavy 10 predicted and he is sure to have improved even further off his last start, when he was running home steadily behind Jacquinot. Is nice each way value and hard to see him not being competitive in this event.
