Form analyst, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Saturday’s meetings, with horse racing tips and analysis for the five best bets of the weekend. Good luck, punters!
Ascot Race 8 – Perth Cup (Group 2) 2400m
ALASKAN GOD has been set for this race from the start of his campaign after his easy WA Derby win in the Autumn. He has raced the best from the west this prep, in Trix In The Trade and Amelia’s Jewel in Group 1’s leading up to progressing to this journey last start.
Although seemed somewhat disappointing, he simply got too far back and had to work too hard in the run home. Patrick Moloney is coming west to ride him and this horse on past form lines, certainly seems to be the one they will all have to beat to take the Cup from him.
Tip: ALASKAN GOD
Flemington Race 6 – Chester Manifold Stakes 1400m
Tip: PAL D’ORO
Doomben Race 5 – Vo Rogue Plate (Group 3) 1350m
Tip: STROLL
Doomben Race 7 – The Buffering 1350m
Do like BRIGANTINE to be a little too good for them in this great race honoring the old champ Buffering. This Godolphin gelding has been contesting much better races in NSW in the Silver Eagle and Razor Sharp recently and placed in both of them. JMac is on board and he should be able to give this boy a gun run from the low draw.
Look for him to be racing away from them over the final stages showing the crowd how classy he actually is. Bet of the day in my opinion.
Tip: BRIGANTINE
The Valley Race 8 – Gold Carat 1200m
Going for a big roughie here currently $41 in HOLLERLUJAH. This filly last time in ended her campaign running 4L behind the handy Kings Consort at Caulfield in April. This time in, she has got back in the field in unsuitable 1000m sprints, the most recent running home extremely solidly against the promising Red Card.
Look for this girl to drop out early and if there is any pace on throughout, she should be one running home at the business end. Worth a value play at odds.
