Five best bets for Matchweek 7

Looking ahead to Matchweek 7 of the 2023/24 EPL season, we break down the five best bets for the weekend of Premier League action.

1. Manchester City -2.0 vs Wolverhampton @ $3.30

Opposite ends of the EPL table, it’s hard to see a struggling Wolves outfit containing Manchester City on Saturday. Wolves boss Gary O’Neil says “there is no magic wand” to help fix the issues at his club, which has seen them grab just four points in the opening six league games and knocked out of the League Cup by Ipswich Town this week. City, by contrast, are flying and have banged in 16 goals in six games as the only blemish free EPL side this season. Wolves have lost by two of more goals twice already this season (to Brighton and Liverpool), and there’s a huge chance it could happen again in this one.

2. Jarrod Bown (WHU) anytime goalscorer vs Sheffield United @ $2.90

Only two players — Erling Haaland and Son Heung-Min — have scored more goals than West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen to date this EPL season. The crafty winger has scored in three of his last four games, which has included hitting the back of the net against Top 4 sides in Liverpool and Brighton. And with the Hammers returning home this week against a Sheffield United side coming off the back of a record 8-0 thumping at the hands of Newcastle, there’s every chance Bowen will have opportunity to add to his tally on Saturday afternoon UK time.

3. Newcastle United -2.0 vs Burnley @ $3.05

A super past week for Newcastle has seen them put eight past Sheffield United (including a record eight different goalscorers) and, even better, defeat Manchester City in the League Cup to keep alive their hopes of going one better in that competition in 2023/24. While they’ve had mixed results to date this EPL campaign, it’s undoubtedly a major confidence boost for manager Eddie Howe and his side. Burnley, by contrast, are struggling. A return to the top-flight has netted just one point in their opening six games. And it’s only thanks to Newcastle hammering the Blades that they don’t boast the league’s worst goal difference. The Magpies should ease to three points at St James’ Park.

4. Tottenham H2H vs Liverpool @ $2.85

Another huge test for Ange Postecoglou’s men, but one in which they’re a huge chance in. Despite starting as underdogs, there’s little reason why Spurs can’t cause an upset here. They were yet again superb in the North London derby, taking it to Arsenal on enemy turf in the pulsating 2-2 result. Back on home soil, they won’t be taking a backward step in this one either. Skipper Son Heung-Min and inspired signing James Maddison are forming one of the EPL’s most prolific partnerships, and again loom as the key here. Facing a Liverpool side who’ve won five on the bounce, it’s another big opprtunity for the Aussie manager who has taken the world’s biggest league by storm.

5. Draw, Fulham vs Chelsea @ $3.30

What the heck is happening at Stamford Bridge? For all the positivity and ‘clean slate’ this campaign under Mauricio Pochettino, the Blues have won just one game of their opening six, against relegation favourites Luton. The wheels have begun to fall off in recent weeks, with their last two home games resulting in defeats to Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa. Those results came either side of a draw to Bournemouth, too. Fulham themselves have made a solid start to the EPL season, having won two, drawn two and lost two. They’ve won three of their last five across all competitions. And they could well get something out of this West London derby.
