Looking ahead to Matchweek 5 of the 2023/24 EPL season, we break down the five best bets for the weekend of Premier League action.
1. Tottenham -1.0 vs Sheffield United @ $2.00*
It’s a welcome return home for Spurs after playing three of their first four games away from home, the last two of which they walked away comprehensive winners. Aussie Ange Postecoglou has the North London side — low on confidence when he arrived after a season to forget — humming. Perhaps most pleasingly, new skipper Son Heung-Min is on the board for the season, bagging a hat-trick against Burnley in what would’ve been a sizeable confidence boost. There’s still huge competition for spots in Postecoglou’s best XI, meaning they won’t let up in the latter stages of this one.
@SpursOfficial Ange Ball is sinking in fast. Brilliant. It's been a while since I saw playing Spurs so fluent and confident. Major effect. That last pass from Pedro to @Sonny7 pic.twitter.com/jpo2UvgOpI

2. Arsenal -1.0 vs Everton @ $2.45*
After a stirring win over Manchester United in Matchweek 4, the Gunners should make light work of Everton. A late winner marked the sixth time Mikel Arteta’s men have scored in the 90th minute or later to win or salvage a point, a stat that bodes well for another title push. Everton, by contrast, are struggling. One point in their opening four games this EPL campaign has fans already worried about relegation. While some went out the door in the transfer window, the club didn’t reinvest the cash in any new players, leaving fans frustrated. At the Emirates, Arsenal should prove far too strong in this one.

3. Over 3.5 goals Manchester United vs Brighton @ $2.15*
Brighton are playing some of the EPL’s most entertaining football this season, and their scoring record backs that up. No team has scored more than the Seagulls’ 12 to date this campaign, and Evan Ferguson has emerged as a genuinely exciting young striker. Roberto de Zerbi’s side are a chance of causing an upset here, but even if they don’t it’s likely to be a clash with goals in it. Neither sides boast brilliant defences at present, and an entertaining contest at Old Trafford could well be on the cards.

4. Liverpool -1.0 vs Wolves @ $2.15*
Three wins on the bounce for Liverpool, and a fourth one looms here. Widely viewed as a team in transition after a complete overhaul of the squad in the off-season, Jurgen Klopp’s men have played some impressive football in recent weeks, and new man Dominik Szoboszlai has made a fantastic start to life as a Red. Wolves are leaky in defence, underlined by the fact they have conceded eight goals in just four games to date, and will be under the pump against a Mo Salah-led line.
"If you put Pep in Klopp's position I'm not sure he would excel!" 😲
"I think Klopp has proved that he can work on a shoe string!" 💪
"Guardiola relies on having money!" 😤

5. Double chance: Brentford Draw or Win vs Newcastle @ $2.55*
This would’ve seemed an almost silly option a month ago. But something has changed at Newcastle United. The international break couldn’t have come at a better time for Eddie Howe’s men, who have lost three of their first four games this EPL season. To put that into context, they lost just five games in the entire 2022/23 campaign. It’s not panic stations by any measure, but the midfield is yet to click, and they are leaking goals at the back (six in their last three games). Brentford, by contrast, have started the season brightly and are yet to lose. If ever there was a time they’d walk away with something from St James’ Park, it’s now.
