Form analyst, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Saturday’s meetings, with horse racing tips and analysis for the six best bets of the day. Good luck, punters!
Rosehill Race 8 – Chelmsford Stakes 1600m
MONTEFILIA first up today for her spring campaign in which she will be targeting the Caulfield Cup. She has been well backed all week, suggesting she is right on the mark for this first up tilt. She has had a couple of recent trials and hasn’t been asked to do much in them, so I would expect this great mare to be ready for a top run fresh.
She is all class and watch for that usual barnstorming finish from her again, hopefully with her head in front at the line.
Tip: MONTEFILIA
Randwick R7 – Tramway Stakes 1400m
ZAAKI is resuming today ahead of his big spring targets and he should be able to get away with the Tramway stakes first up. Won this race comfortably last year after a spell and after a couple of recent trials, the big guy should be just about ready to hit the headlines again.
No doubt he will be fresh and have plenty of improvement in him going forward, but all indications suggest he is at a level, that should still see him winning.
Tip: ZAAKI
The Valley R4 – John F. Feehan Stakes 1600m
MR BRIGHTSIDE returned in winning form in the P.B.Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield last start when finished too well. He won the G1 Doncaster Mile before break on heavy ground at Randwick so gets through all conditions.
He has won at this track and distance previously which is a big advantage around the tight Valley circuit. Craig Williams riding in superb form and he can add another big race to his already impressive resume’
Tip: MR BRIGHTSIDE
The Valley R5 – McEwen Stakes 1000m
Looking forward to the return of boom three-year-old filly COOLANGATTA. Her run to finish in the placings on the heavy ground in the Golden Slipper was enormous and that followed a dominant Queensland trip culminating with a Magic Millions Classic win at the Gold Coast.
She has been trialing like she is ready to win first-up from break and expect she will be one of the starts of the spring.
Tip: COOLANGATTA
Belmont R6 – Rating 66+ Handicap 2100m
CRESCENT CITY certainly looks ready to win one of these races shortly. Has just missed in his past 2 attempts over similar distances and this race does look like a race well within his grasp. This gelding should be able to obtain the gun run in behind the speed from the perfect draw and drop on them on straightening for home.
He does look to be enormous value at his current odds. My best for the day at Belmont Park.
Tip: CRESCENT CITY
Doomben R8 – Members Cup 1350m
SNIPPY FOX has been racing in listed class races in NSW recently and seems to be dropping slightly in grade for this race. She has been brought north by the Pride camp for this assignment and she looks extremely well placed.
Comes in with only 54kgs and was placed behind the smart Waihaha Falls 2 runs back when well in the market. Definitely one of the best each way plays of the day.
