Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN previews Saturday’s Randwick , with horse racing tips and analysis for all 10 races on the card. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Soft 7
Rail Position: True entire
Randwick R1 – BM78 Hcp 1400m
Cracking field here. I think this toppie ARAPAHO is well in – should he run up to his best which was achieved in France. He’s suited this journey and now 2nd up his fitness will benefit. And, I’m not sure being drawn this wide on such a wet track is a bad thing. Good first-up 6th in this grade. Fitter now.
Oh I wouldn’t be at all surprised if ZOUSHACK jumps on the bunny and leads all the way. Nash is the best front-running rider in the land and this bloke is 3rd up after two polished displays. Loves it wet too.
FOX FIGHTER is smart and in career best form. Won past two starts in brilliantly this time up. Harder here but will be running on.
Tip: ZOUSHACK
Randwick R2 – Â Open Hcp (3YO+) 1600m
The run of HIGH SUPREMECY when 5th last start was better than it looks. Â Can atone. Won brilliantly start prior. Respect.
LOOKS LIKE ELVIS hasn’t won for a long time but gee he put the writing on the wall last start when resuming this grade and a strong 2nd. Certain to be thereabouts here too.
He’s up in grade but the claim makes NEW ARRANGEMENT very hard to beat. Is very fit and will be in this for a long way. Big show.
Tip: LOOKS LIKE ELVIS
Randwick R3 – Cl 3 Highway Hcp 1100m
You just have to have AHEAD START in your numbers here. He resumed from a spell last start over a1000m in a Cl 3 Highway like this and came home hard to grab 2nd. Since trialled well and is super fit now. Drawn nicely and looms large. Is honest enough.
Really interesting to see how tough BOSS LADY ROCKS is. Seems untapped after winning past two at Albury on damp ground. Seems to have speed to find a spot and can accelerate late. Might be very smart.
The very wet track will help TANGO STEPZ here as he loves the mud. Is 4th up and very fit. Bound to be in the fray.
Tip: AHEAD START
PICARONES for Godolphin is very talented. She is fourth up into this but has been running on hard in similar races down south. Gives the impression she might go hard and be on speed all the way here.
FANGIRL is stepping cup a fair way in grade following a Goulburn maiden win last start. But she won it with ridiculous ease and is bred to like it wet.
MAYROSE is on home track here and did win her maiden here last start too finishing hard. Is on the improve every run.
Tip: PICARONES
Randwick R5 – $1.3million The Kosciuszko 1200m
Great contest, featuring the best bush sprinters in the land. I do think HANDLE THE TRUTH looks a put in take out bet. Will get back a bit and be on the fence which may be a bad spot but if they fan wide in the straight, he is many lengths better than these and should dash home. Both his runs this time up have been good in better grade. Did win this race with same jock two years ago.
ART CADEAU is just the most honest horse in the land. Has raced 11 times for 5 wins and 6 x 2nd placings. Won the coveted Ctry Champs final last start before spell. Never been beaten this track from 2 runs. Loves it wet and is dynamite first-up. Big show.
NADARAJA is very fast and strong. Is up a mile in grade here but from this gate probably leads and will be there a good while. Loves the mud too.
Tip: 1. HANDLE THE TRUTH
Randwick R6 – G3 $500k Sydney Stakes  1200m
KEMENTARI is a star. On his day he would rate a strong chance in The Everest. looked awesome upon resuming last start when dashing late to claim the Gr 2 Gilgai over 1200m beating Zoutori. Was backed that day. Handles the mud very well too.
SIGNORE FOX is trained here and is a beast while fresh. Resumes here and while he will be out the back door early, he’s bound to be…bounding home. Big danger.
STANDOUT just missed a start in The Everest. He rattled home along the rails last start when a good 2nd to Masked Crusader in the Gr 2 Premier in very fast time. Unknown in the mud nut is back in form.
Tip: 1. KEMENTARI
Randwick R7 – $15 million  The Everest 1200m
What a terrific race. The old champ, last year’s stunning runaway winner, CLASSIQUE LEGEND, has not had a lead-up race this time but has had 3 trials and won them all. He looks primed and he loves this track. Drawn to get the best run possible. Must be given great shot and goes well fresh.
EDUARDO was slaughtered in this race last year and has since gone on a winning spree. He now regularly beats Nature Strip and he is potent 2nd up. Guess what, he’s 2nd up into this. Loves it wet too and should slot in here either on the outside of Home Affairs or on his own in front. They may not catch him today.
GYTRASH should have won first-up when checked and a good thing beaten 3rd to Eduardo when resuming. Is very fit and has placed in this race before. Rates very highly.
THE INFERNO is huge odds but shouldn’t be. He goes well in the wet, he is a ‘know-how-to-win horse’, was unlucky when 2nd in the Gr 1 Moir over 1000m last start, is super fit and will love this long straight. Respect him. Watch market.
Tip: 1. EDUARDO, Â 2. The Inferno, 3. Gytrash, 4. Classique Legend
Randwick R8 – G3 $750k Craven Plate (WFA) 2000m
THINK IT OVER is tough and honest and well and truly now up to this grade. Trip looks to be perfect and he was solid winning Gr 2 narrowly over Shared Ambition last start. Slight worry is that he has failed badly in the mud previously, several times. Respect him as he is very smart.
SHARED AMBITION is tough and gave Think It Over such a scare last start when in front of him until a stride before the post this trip on level weights last start. Better suited today as is fitter and does boast a very good soft track record.
LION’S ROAR has been out of form of late but prefers this trip and is very fit. Also doesn’t mind it muddy. Have in your numbers. Big danger.
Tip: 1. THINK IT OVER
Randwick R9 – St Leger (3YO+) 2600m
This is a tough race. ENTENTE is on home track and is in sparkling, career best form. Beaten a nose in the Gr 1 Metrop last start and should get a great run trailing behind Fun Fact and Hush Writer here. Huge chance.
WARNING looks to be ready for this. Absolutely rocketed home over the last 100m after being a mile back in the Gr 1 Metrop last start when 10th. Run was much better than it looked and he is a lot fitter now. Big chance in this.
The Victorian mare HIGH EMOCEAN is a dab hand in the mud and is coming into form nicely. Can stay and was a close-up 2nd last start over 2400m at stalk’s level. Have in your numbers..
Tip: 1. ENTENTE
Randwick R10 – BM78 (3YO +) Hcp 1400m
This EQUATION is interesting and looks nicely in here after the claim. He’s won 4 races, all of them in the wet and he is 3rd up into this after a cracking 6th last start in the $500,000 Silver Eagle. Respect.
NIGHT OF POWER gets back and charges home. Did that last start in a BM 88 race when beaten a head this trip. Big danger.
SUAVE looks well in. Goes up just 1kg for winning an exact copy of this race last start. And in fitter now. Â Just keeps improving.
