Caulfield R8 – $1m G1 Â Memsie Stakes 1400m
1. FIFTY STARS (6) 52x720872x
T: Tom Dabernig /J: John Allen (59kg)
What a good horse. He is a strong galloper at this trip and boasts a useful first up record. Is resuming here. Is also a Gr 1 winner and can hit the line powerfully on occasions. Will give your money a big run.
2. BEHEMOTH (9) 10x143x7x1
T: David Jolly / J: Jamie Kah (59kg)
Won brilliantly in Adelaide first up showing he is back with a bang. Is a multiple Gr 1 winner and goes particularly well at this journey. May have to stride forward from this gate and be on pace from the get go. Â Suited to this and if he leads around the home turn he will take catching. Big show.
3. STREETS OF AVALON (10) 84x1167x28
T: Shane Nichols / J: Dean Yendall (59kg)
Class galloper and is very strong late when allowed to lead. Probably does push forward and run these along. Is 3rd up so is super fit. Did win at this trip here in Feb when taking out the Gr 1 Orr Stakes in good time. Beaten a nose when resuming 1200m behind Sandom two starts back. Big show.
4. ARCHEDEMUS (11) 3721x591x7
T: Team Hawkes / J: Fred Kersley (59kg)
This bloke is another solid on pace galloper who is capable on his day. Can mix his form a bit and isn’t always reliable at this level over this journey. Will probably find it tough the last 100m.
5. RED CAN MAN (8) 3246×71633
T: David Brideoake / J: Michael Dee (59kg)
This bloke may be the knock out horse. He goes very well at this trip and after winning the Gr 3 Monash here over 1100m, he stepped up in trip and placed twice this journey. Latest when beaten 1.3 lengths by Sierra Sue here over 1400m. Is a big show if he sits off the speed which will be on, and then come hard.
6. SANSOM (2) 4x11476x10
T: Phillip Stokes / J: Ben Allen (59kg)
Interesting galloper. Is enigmatic. Won beating Streets Of Avalon here at big odds two runs back then thrashed behind Sierra Sue here last start in a. Gr 2. Â Looks tested.
7. AEGON (7) 111x1160x
T: Murray Baker & Andrew Forsnam / J: Joe McNeill (58.5kg)
Strong Kiwi galloper who can run very fast time when right. Is a Gr 1 winner in his homeland over a mile and is a Gr 2 winner this trip in Australia. Is unbeaten when resuming at two attempts and would not be here first-up if not ready to run a blinder. Big show.
8. BEAU ROSSA (1) 7x11210x12
T: Will Clarken/ J: Ben Melham (58.5kg)
Good reliable customer but this is as far as he likes to run. Looked outstanding when resuming in Adelaide with runaway win in the mud over 1050m then beaten a lip by the smart Behemoth at level weights last start. Is another who probably drives forward. Â Good place show.
9. COLETTE (12) 561x12454x
T: James Cummings / J: Damien Oliver (57kg)
Is interesting. Very smart on her day, breathtakingly so. Has a first up 1400m win at Gr 2 level behind her when thrashing the champ Verry Elleegant. Resumes here. Working brilliantly. Watch betting.
10. TOFANE (4) 3597x7211x
T: Michael Moroney/ J: Craig Williams (57kg)
Tough, solid, superstar mare who seems to be improving every campaign. If so, looks the winner. Ended last prep with a pair of Gr 1 wins, both at this distance. She won the Gr 1 Stradbroke in a brilliant 1.21.9. Hasn’t a great first-up record but her class should bring her right into this finish.
11. INSPIRATIONAL GIRL (3) 1x1131112x
T: Danny O’Brien /J: Damian Lane (57kg)
Everyone wants to see how she measures up here. Has raced just 12 times: 9 wins and 3 placings in the west so we know she knows how to be in a finish. Resumes here but is brilliant while fresh and is a Gr 1 winner over 1600m. Does appear to be extra good and likes to get back then charge late.
12. SIERRA SUE (5) x97c060411
T: Trent Busuttin & Nat Young / J: Luke Currie (57kg)
Will be another running on if past two starts mean anything. She won them both, and both were over this trip. Last one was here two weeks ago in the Gr 2 Lawrence beating a few of these. Respect her.
