Horse Racing Tips & Previews – Caulfield | Sat 28th Aug

Form analyst, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Saturday’s Caulfield meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 9 races. Good luck, punters!

Track Condition: Soft 5

Rail Position: True entire circuit

Liked the way BEDFORD attacked the line at The Valley last start when grabbed late placing. Should be better back around Caulfield and he gets his chance to win this campaign.

TOORADIN is a model of consistency. Won his first two starts this time in then has been placed last couple. Should get the perfect sit in behind the speed and he will go close to winning this.

MAHAMEDEIS gets the advantage of apprentice claim and that puts him well in at the weights. Loves this track and cannot leave him out of multiples.

HEIR TO THE THRONE has won two of his last three starts. Was strong to the line at Hillside last start and he is very honest and can never be left out of chances.

Tip: BEDFORD

THE GAUCH is a smart gelding resuming from a spell. Chased hard when favourite here last start and got up in last couple of strides. If forward enough he can win this.

DEEP SPEED was tough from up on the speed here two starts back then close up at Flemington last start. Back to Caulfield and if he can control this he can win.

DIRTY THOUGHTS has been placed in two of three starts this time in and she looks close to a win. Drawn to get the perfect run in transit and she will get her chance at some stage in straight.

ENFLEURAGE looked like she would benefit from her first-up run when she faded at Randwick last start. She started favourite there and sure to be improved.

Tip: THE GAUCH

Going to have something each way on NEED NEW FRIENDS. Thought she was good late at Flemington first-up and with that run under her girth she can feature in this.

LUNAKORN has been placed in three of her four starts when fresh from a spell. She draws the inside and should get all the favours to the turn and if she can get room straightening can win this.

TURAATH won with something in hand at Flemington last start and that made it two in a row. If she holds that form she can win again.

ANNAVISTO resumes. Unbeaten in two first-up runs and she is a Listed winner. Had a trial to get her forward for this and she cannot be left out.

Tip: NEED NEW FRIENDS

Blue Diamond winner ARTORIUS resumes from a spell. Only poor run was on the wet in the Golden Slipper and may not have handled the Sydney way of going. Class will take him a long way in this.

GENERAL BEAU is such an honest colt. Yet to run a bad race and his run first-up was full of merit when claimed by smart one. Fitter and drawn to drive through and lead these for a long way.

MR MOZART was making good late ground in the Vain Stakes first-up from a spell. Another that will be better from the outing and a must for multiples.

HERESY was the eye catcher from the back when placed in the G3 Quezette here first-up. Smart filly who will win some nice races this Spring.

Tip: ARTORIUS

MASKED CRUSADER resumes from spell. He won by big space at Randwick when first-up last time in work. Group 1 winner last prep and he may just be bot too good for these.

CROSSHAVEN ran a slashing race when placed in Group 1 company this track when first-up last time in work. Usually finds form early in campaigns and must include.

VIRIDINE has not been beaten all that far in his last couple without having the best of luck. Races well around this track and a mush for all multiples.

POLAND won the G2 Autumn Stakes this track when fresh last time in work. Sure to be better when he gets over further but would expect he will be rushing home late.

Tip: MASKED CRUSADER

PROBABEEL won at Group 3 level this track/distance when first-up last time in work before taking out the G1 Futurity. Class mare and she is clear top pick in this.

INSTANT CELEBRITY was Group 1 winner last time in work then placed in G1 Goodwood before break. Yet to run a poor race and from ideal barrier she will be right in the mix.

LA MEXICANA ran on solidly and only just missed here first-up then beaten less than a length in Listed company last start. Third-up from spell and ready to find best form.

RICH HIPS flies fresh having won three of four first-up outings. She will be giving them a start on the corner but watch for her last 200m.

Tip: PROBABEEL

TRALEE ROSE is an exciting staying mare resuming from a spell. She will be much better when getting over further this Spring but she won fresh last time in work and at the odds going to have something each way.

MIAMI BOUND is another fresh from break. She finished last campaign with a string of minor placings and she is another that could run a cheeky race from the corner.

ANGEL OF TRUTH was making late ground when placed here first-up from spell. He will be better with that run under his girth and a must for multiples.

ZIEGFELD placed in Listed company two starts back then beaten just on a length in small field at Kembla Grange last start. Has horror barrier but Damien Oliver aboard and can sneak a place.

Tip: TRALEE ROSE

Exciting to have dual Group 1 winner TOFANE resuming from a spell. Placed in two of five first-up. Finished last prep winning the Stradbroke and Tatt’s Tiara in Brisbane. Big watch.

BEHEMOTH is a monster gelding who got the race on protest in Adelaide first-up and rightfully so. Loves Caulfield and he can win again.

BEAU ROSSA bolted in first-up then he held Behemoth off last start but lost the race in the Stewards room. Drawn ideally and he will take catching from the corner.

AEGON is a Kiwi gelding unbeaten in two first-up tries. Battled in a couple of Sydney Group 1’s to end last campaign but must respect on fresh record.

Tip: TOFANE

Arguably the most exciting return of the day is the Price/Kent gelding AYRTON. Drawn wide and still learning the caper but he has abundance of talent and can get away with this.

FROSTY ROCKS has resumed from spell with a couple of impressive NSW wins. Did few things wrong at Kembla Grange last start but still too strong. Will get ideal run from barrier and sure to be in mix.

The run of REGARDSMAREE first-up at Flemington was better than finishing position suggests. He raced in super form last time in work and sure to be an improver this start.

GROUNDSWELL controlled the race from the front at Flemington last start and held them all off for strong win. If he gets soft lead here he will take catching.

Tip: AYRTON
