Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN previews Saturday’s Randwick , with horse racing tips and analysis for all 10 races on the card. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Heavy 8
Rail Position: Out 6m from 1600m to w/p, 4m remainderÂ
DRAGONSTONE looks smart and his last start midweek win was full of praise mainly because he seemed to revel in the wet ground and he came from off the pace. There are 4 in this who are mad for the lead so you know there will be a battle on early and thus, set up a solid tempo. Keep him safe.
First starter SIR CRACKLE is big and gangly but seems to be able to accelerate at will. He has won three trials, the latest pair by huge widening margins. Might be a superstar. Â That makes him a major player.
This is a very good winter 2YO race and FORZANINI is a finisher who is on the improve ever run. Scored gamely in weaker grade last start but looked good doing it.
Tip: SIR CRACKLE
Randwick R2 – Â BM72 Hcp 1500m
So many chances in this. All of them in fact. The Bjorn Baker stable is flying at present and KOBE ROCKS, who scored two starts back, looks well in this time too. Is very fit, in form, goes great at this level and is drawn perfectly.
OAKFIELD PRINCE is rising a bit in class but he’s tough and he gives the impression he is a riser too. Has scored under big weights at past two and should hit the line hard. May surprise.
CANADIAN SPICE has been up a long time but continues to hold form and looks nicely weighted in this. Well supported last start and hit the line well when 4th last start this level on a track that favoured the leaders. Big show.
Tip: KOBE ROCKS
Randwick R3 – Cl 3 Highway Hcp 1400m
Big weight for the very consistent and honest CASINO KID. He was sensationally backed when last in town for a Highway and bolted in. Just joined in and raced away. Tougher here but he is progressing. Looks very classy.
TAGS is another progressive type. Only raced 5 times for 3 wins and carried a big weight at Hawkesbury last start in a tough BM 64 and plugged well for 3rd. certain to be charging hard late here too.
UNDERGROUND MUSIC is another one on the rise. She was beaten just 4 lengths in a similar Highway race last start when 2nd up. Much fitter now and has a touch of class. Sure to run on too.
Tip: CASINO KID
BRAZEN GEM looks very well placed in this. Is extremely good while fresh and is 3rd up now. Both runs back have been only average though. Gives the impression this trip will suit.
Can’t knock the form of DE GRAWIN. well, last campaign anyway when she won 4 on the bounce. Has taken a little bit of time to get into gear this campaign but is ready now. Deserves another win.
DUNBRODY POWER will appreciate the 3kg claim. Is 2nd up and if she has a mind to, she can rattle off very fast last 400m stats. Respect. Looms very large.
Tip: DUNRODY POWER
Randwick R5 – BM78 Hcp (3YO+) 2000m
This WELSH LEGEND is very fit and doesn’t mind the mud. She is tough as old boots too and will be on speed all the way. Watch market.
Similarly, HARPO MARX is ready. He too is 3rd up and he is very game. Loves it wet and loves to stay. Has settled in to Aussie racing very well and was showing tremendous talent when last in work. Â Big show.
Monsieur Sisu is a speed stayer and will like this. Should go hard with the 2kg weight allowance and will take running down. Is very fit.
Tip: 1. HARPO MARX
Randwick R6 – BM78 Hcp 1100m
You just cannot find a reason to leave LANCASTER BOMBER out of your tips. He is honest, tough, consistent and well weighted. Strips fitter after a terrific 3rd first up and looks well placed.
Similarly, HULK. Just finds the line every time in this level of event. Has raced 4 times this campaign and been runner-up on 3 occasions so thoroughly deserves a victory today. Must be considered.
BROKEN ARROWS has talent and being 2nd up here after a fighting 3rd at this level when resuming makes him a keen player in this. Drawn to sit just off speed and come late.
Tip: 1. HULK
Randwick R7 – BM72 Midway Hcp 1300m
What a terrific race. ROYAL BANQUET looks deliciously well placed. Last campaign he tore through the grades winning 4 straight. Since spelling has raced twice in tougher BM 78 races and is ready to return to the winner’s circle. Big danger.
This former French horse ASHIM was responsible for a tip top Aussie debut when 4th last start in a better race. Was hitting the wire hard and this grade is easier. Fitter now too. Â Must be considered here.
BAZOOKA doesn’t ever seem to win but my word he hit the line hard last start when narrowly beaten and does like it wet. Watch market.
Tip: 1. ROYAL BANQUET
Randwick R8 – Listed Winter Stakes 1400m
This mare TRICKY GAL will relish the conditions here and her recent form, particularly her last start, suggests today is the day she finally wins a Black Type race. Will settle back but will be flying home late. She is very strong late and is very fit.
BANDERSNATCH Â is a front-runner at this level and he beat Tricky Gal home last start in the Civic Stakes, leading throughout, by just on a length. He does meet her 2kg worse off for that game win. Likes it wet. Big danger.
RIODINI is up 9kg from his 3rd in the Gr 1 Epsom. But this is about 10kg easier. Has never been beaten at this trip from 2 starts. Is on home track and has been trialling brilliantly. Has won twice in the mud too so must be respected, looms large also.
Tip: 1. RIODINI
Randwick R9 – Bm88 Hcp (3YO+) 1200m
I think you just have to fhope he ploughs through the mud OK if on AL MAH HAHA here. He is the class horse but is first up, has never won on a heavy track and won just once from 5 starts when resuming.
I AM POWER is racing lights out this campaign and looms as the one to beat following the tenacity he showed to win last start. Big chance in this.
DREAM CIRCLE failed last start but had won previous two. Loves the mud and expect a much better showing in this.Â
Tip: 1. I AM POWER
Randwick R10 – BM78 Hcp 1400m
You simply have to overlook ULYSSES’ last start failure. Was completely out of character. Is 3rd up and expect him to bounce back.
BLONDEAU, however, will love it wet, despite the fact that he too was a failure when fav and 4th this grade last run. He is ready to run up to his talent. Big danger.
MATOWATAKPE won an easier race like a smart horse last start chiming in late and roaring on. Is in form so must be included.
