UFC 300 Tips – Pereira v Hill

Headlined by Jamahal Hill challenging Alex Pereira for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship, the UFC 300 card showcases five great fights that include the likes of Zhang Weili, Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira.

UFC 300 Tips

Alex Pereira (c) vs Jamahal Hill

Career Records:

Pereira – 9-2 (7 wins by KO/TKO)

Hill – 12-1 (1) (7 wins by KO/TKO)

Last Bouts:

Pereira def Prochazka -TKO (elbows) – UFC 295, November 2023

Hill def Teixeira – Decision (unanimous) – UFC 283, January 2023

Alex Pereira will take on Jamahal Hill and aim to defend his title in the main event of what has been considered the biggest event in the UFC’s history. After claiming the title against Jiri Prochazka in UFC 295, the Brazilian has gone 6-1 in the past two years, claimed two belts, and is in the prime of his MMA career.

In the highly-anticipated match, Pereira will be looking to go straight to his formidable kickboxing game, using his left hook and calf kicks – the same way he defeated Prochazka and Israel Adesanya. On the other hand, the fight will be Hill’s first in over a year and first since he sustained an Achilles injury.

Although he has shown in previous fights how excelled he is in the Octagon, especially with his strikes, the injury will likely play a significant part in the match. Due to this, and the fight being his first in over a year, Pereira is expected to walk away with the victory and retain the title.

Weili Zhang (c) vs Xiaonan Yan

Career Records:

Zhang – 24-3 (11 wins by KO/TKO)

Yan – 17-3 (1) (8 wins by KO/TKO)

Last Bouts:

Zhang def Lemos – Decision (unanimous) – UFC 292, August 2023

Yan def Andrade – KO (punches) – UFC 288, May 2023

The match between Weili Zhang and Xiaonan Yan is the first time two Chinese fighters will compete for a UFC title, creating UFC history. In a historic moment for the sport of MMA and China, Zhang and Yan will leave nothing in their arsenal as they look to gain the upper advantage and be on the right end of history.

A well-rounded athlete, Zhang has won her past three fights and hasn’t lost since UFC 268 in 2021 against Rose Namajunas – this includes victories of Joanna Jedrejczyk, Carl Esparza and Amanda Lemos, all by different methods. Incredible with her striking game, Zhang is the favourite heading into the match.

However, her opponent, Xionan Yan, will be looking to produce the ultimate upset. Entering the match, this is Yan’s first opportunity to win a title and is coming off a KO (punches) victory against Jessica Andrade at UFC 288. Also, gaining a win over Mackenzie Dern, Yan will be eager to make use of her grappling and submission game.

Justin Gaethje (c) vs Max Holloway

Career Records:

Gaethje – 20-4 (20 wins by KO/TKO)

Holloway – 25-7 (11 wins by KO/TKO)

Last Bouts:

Gaethje def Poirier – KO (head kick) – UFC 291, July 2023

Holloway def Chan-sung – KO (punch) – UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs The Korean Zombie, August 2023

Likely to be the ‘Match of the Night’ on the UFC 300 card, Justin Gaethje will defend the symbolic BMF title against Max Holloway after winning it off Dustin Poirier by KO (head knock) on the UFC 291 card in July last year.

The two veterans of the Octagon will collide against each other with Gaethje, aiming to get right to his striking game an area which he has always been known for – all 20 of his professional wins have come by KO/TKO.

On the other hand, Max Holloway not only moves up a weight class but is more known for lasting the distance with his cardio and endurance rather than finishing the fight earlier. UFC superstar Israel Adesanya stated that the way Holloway can win is by aiming to drag out the fight and use his counter-attacking game.

“Max has I think better defense than Gaethje,” Adesanya said of Holloway on FREESTYLEBENDER. “If he implements that from the beginning, head movement, all of that stuff, I think Max can get him to swing, drag his attacks out, counter, and build off of that.”

Charles Oliveira vs Arman Tsarukyan

Career Records:

Oliveira – 34-9 (1) (10 wins by KO/TKO)

Tsarukyan – 21-3 (9 wins by KO/TKO)

Last Bouts:

Oliveira def Dariush – TKO (punches) – UFC 289, June 2023

Tsarukyan def Dariush – KO (knee and punches) – UFC on ESPN: Dariush vs Tsarukyan, December 2023

With the winner set to become the number one contender for the UFC Lightweight Championship held by Islam Makhachev, Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan will bring their all to the UFC 300 card and two different fighting styles.

Oliveira is known for his all-offense style and will be looking to win the fight via submission but also has a great kickboxing game. Despite being dropped in four of his last five fights, Oliveria is willing to take a beating and always manages to make it back to his feet.

On the other hand, Tsarukyan is known for his wrestling and loves to take his opponent down to the mat. However, he is also incredible at striking and manages to find KO/TKO’s in the opening round. Recently, he stated on The MMA Hour, “My prediction, it’s a finish in the first round. TKO, done”. The longer the fight lasts the more chance Oliveria is likely to walk away with the victory.

Bo Nickal vs Cody Brundage

Career Records:

Nickal – 5-0 (2 wins by KO/TKO)

Brundage – 10-5 (5 wins by KO/TKO)

Last Bouts:

Nickal def Woodburn – TKO (punches) – UFC 290, July 2023

Brundage def Reese – KO (slam and punches) – UFC on ESPN: Dariush vs Tsarukyan, December 2023

An elite college wrestler, Bo Nickal is the easy favourite for the bout, paying $1.04 compared to his opponents’ $11.00. While it won’t issue a large payout, it is hard to see Cody Brundage walking away with an upset victory.

Not only was Nickal a standout in college, but he is also one of the best prospects in the UFC promotion at the moment. At the moment he has taken the MMA sport by storm with a career record of 5-0, including two victories by KO/TKO.

Aiming to continue his undefeated streak, Nickal has proven that he can show his dominance quickly in the Octagon and has yet to last long in a single bout.
