UFC 293 Tips- Adesanya vs Strickland

Israel Adesanya vs Sean Strickland

Career Records:

Adesanya – 24-2 (16 wins by KO/TKO)

Strickland – 27-5 (11 wins by KO/TKO)

Last Bouts:

Adesanya def Pereira – KO/TKO – UFC 287, April 2023

Strickland def Magomedov – KO/TKO – UFC on ESPN: Strickland vs Magomedov, July 2023

Analysis: Headlining the UFC 293 card, Israel Adesanya will go head-to-head with Sean Strickland as he looks to retain the UFC Middleweight Championship.

Whilst Strickland is unpredictable in the Octagon, Adesanya can easily change his fight style to fit the opponent. The only chance Strickland will have of causing an upset is to take the reigning champion to the ground, but that is easier said than done. The longer the fight goes, the more accustomed Adesanya will feel and can easily make Strickland pay for simple mistakes.

With only two losses in his mixed martial arts career to date, Adesanya will look to make light work of Strickland. Using his intelligence and striking ability, the New Zealander has the advantage in nearly all facets of the bout and will be confident to produce a dominant victory, extending his reign with a a KO/TKO.

Tai Tuivasa vs Alexander Volkov

Career Records:

Tuivasa – 14-5 (13 wins by KO/TKO)

Volkov – 36-10 (24 wins by KO/TKO)

Last Bouts:

Tuivasa def by Pavlovich – KO/TKO – UFC on ESPN: Thompson vs Holland, December 2023

Volkov def Romanov – KO/TKO – UFC Fight Night: Yan vs Dvalishvili, March 2023

Analysis: Alexander Volkov, a top-ten heavyweight for the past several years, will take on the entertaining Tai ‘Bam Bam’ Tuivasa.

The two are completely different fighters. Alexander Volkov is more technical and uses his height and reach to his advantage. This allows him to land multiple shots whilst absorbing his blows to a minimum. On the other hand, Tuivasa is electric in the Octagon and fights the same way in every bout. His raw power see him outshine from the rest of the class and his endurance for a big man is unheard of.

While Volkov heads into the bout as the favourite, Tai Tuivasa can deliver an instant blow that will see him emerge victorious. The longer the fight goes, Volkov should be able to walk away as the winner, however, the entertainment factor of Tuivasa will mean he will be looking to KO/TKO his opponent. Having all but one of his MMA victories being produced by KO/TKO, the same result can be expected in what is set to be a wild brawl for the ages.

Manel Kape vs Felipe dos Santos

Career Records:

Kape – 18-6 (11 wins by KO/TKO)

dos Santos – 7-0 (1) (2 wins by KO/TKO)

Last Bouts:

Kape def Dvorak – Decision (unanimous) – UFC Fight Night: Cannonier vs Strickland, December 2022

dos Santos def Paiva – Decision (unanimous) – LFA 146: Barbosa vs Santos, November 2022

Analysis: An experienced Manel Kape will go head-to-head with the inexperienced Felipe dos Santos, who has yet to compete on a UFC card and is yet to register a single loss in his professional MMA career.

Manel Kape has won his past three consecutive fights in the UFC and will be eager to keep his winning streak alive. Ranked #10 in the UFC flyweight rankings, Kape brings brilliant striking and an extreme cardio ability to the table. The added incentive of being dos Santos’ first loss will also fuel him up in the lead-up to the fight.

Despite coming into the bout with an undefeated record, Felipe dos Santos has never been challenged like what he will be by Kape in UFC 293. The Brazilian fighter is yet to compete on a UFC card and is coming off the Contender Series- a television show that showcases the best upcoming MMA talent. While his inexperience may be a negative, his raw talent is a positive, as he looks to make a statement, cement his spot in the promotion and keep his undefeated record intact.

In what will be an excellent opportunity for dos Santos to show off his talent, expect the underdog to cause an upset against the favourite Manel Kape. While his inexperience may cause a problem, he is a great striker and can easily take down his opponent

Justin Tafa vs Austen Lane

Career Records:

Tafa- 6-3 (1) (6 wins by KO/TKO)

Lane – 12-3 (1) (11 wins by KO/TKO)

Last Bouts:

Tafa vs Lane – No Contest (accidental eye poke) – UFC on ABC: Emmett vs Topuria, June 2023

Lane vs Tafa – No Contest (accidental eye poke) – UFC on ABC: Emmett vs Topuria, June 2023

Analysis: After an accidental eye poke caused their previous fight to end early, Justin Tafa and Austen Lane will go up against one another yet again, this time in front of a rowdy Sydney crowd.

Surprisingly, the winner of the fight will depend on how long the bout will last. If the fight remains short, Justin Tafa is considered the favourite; however, Austen Lane should be considered the favourite if the bout goes the distance.

It is hard to see the bout going the distance, meaning Tafa will have the upper advantage. Landing an impressive 5.02 strikes per minute compared to Lane’s 4.33, the previous fight saw Tafa as the favourite and was easily able to manipulate the strikes, takedowns, and kicks that Lane laid out.

Tyson Pedro vs Anton Turkalj

Career Records:

Pedro – 9-4 (4 wins by KO/TKO)

Turkalj – 8-2 (5 wins by KO/TKO)

Last Bouts:

Pedro def by Bukauskas – Decision (unanimous) – UFC 284, February 2023

Turkalj def by Petrino – Decision (unanimous) – UFC Fight Night 221: Yan vs Dvalishvili, March 2023

Analysis: The home crowd favourite Tyson Pedro will be eager to defeat Anton Turkalj on his home turf in Australia.

Looking for his first victory since winning a UFC contract due to the Contender Series, Anton Turkalj has had successive losses in the promotion, and this could be the last time he features on a main card if he struggles to get the victory.

The fight will come down to the opening round. Known for his explosivity, Pedro will be looking to claim the victory in Round 1 with his pace of strikes, kicks and takedowns. Starting strong in the majority of his fights, Pedro will be looking to finish the bout before it begins. If Turkalj can avoid this, he may be able to get his hand raised, but it is unlikely, considering his inexperience.
