Australia’s best sprinters will clash in a mouth-watering edition of the G1 TJ Smith Stakes over 1200m at Randwick this Saturday, with the winner set to claim the throne atop Australia’s sprinting ranks.

For the best part of a year, Redzel has been the undisputed king over our major short course events.

Winning seven of his eight starts in that time, he captured two Group 1 weight-for-age sprints, to go with his crowning achievement when victorious in the inaugural $10 million The Everest.

However, after having his colours lowered by subsequent G1 Newmarket Handicap winner, Redkirk Warrior earlier this year, many have come to question his true position at the top of the heap.

Now, back to the scene of his most outstanding triumph, Redzel looks set to firmly stamp himself as the undisputed top seed amongst our leading sprinters.

Just from a brief look at Redzel’s form, it’s evident he has a certain affinity with the Randwick circuit.

His record stands at an astounding six wins from nine starts, and he is unbeaten at the track and distance of Saturday’s big dance.

While the recent blemish on his record may have left some lingering doubts in the minds of punters, a return to his happy hunting ground should prove just the tonic.

Redzel will once again team-up with regular rider, Kerrin McEvoy – a combination that has netted an 80% winning strike-rate for the pair!

From the midfield draw of barrier six, the pair will lob in their customary role on top of the speed without any fuss.

Whether bowling along in front or sitting just behind the leading brigade – as the pair we’re forced to do when successful in the G2 Challenge Stakes most recently, Redzel should be afforded every chance throughout.

He’ll certainly want to be on his game though, with horses like recent G1 Galaxy winner, In Her Time hot on his heels for that top sprinting gong.

Back to the stage of his Everest triumph however, Redzel looks set to register the same result, and assume his place upon the sprinting throne of not only Australia, but perhaps the world.
