Palmerbet Sports Team’s daily Wimbledon feature match preview breaks down Kevin Anderson’s tall quarter-final order up against top seed Roger Federer.
22:00 (AEST), Wed 11th Jul @ All England Club, London
History: Played 4: Federer 4 V Anderson 0.
Last Meeting: Cincinnati Masters, 2015 (R16): Federer d Anderson 6-1 6-1.
Final Thoughts: South African Kevin Anderson and his big service game are aiming to put a spanner in the works of Roger Federer’s seemingly inevitable march to a ninth Wimbledon crown.
Federer remains on track to repeat his phenomenal effort at Wimbledon last year, when he became the first player since Bjorn Borg in 1976 to win the title without dropping a set.
While it hasn’t exactly been the toughest draw for the G.O.A.T. so far – Adrian Mannarino is the only seeded player he has faced – Federer has won all four of his matches in straight sets by game margins of nine or more.
Towering veteran Anderson has had a considerably more difficult road to the quarters, pushed to four sets by Andreas Seppi and Gael Monfils. But the 32-year-old looks in great touch.
The US Open runner-up last year, Anderson is in a grand slam quarter-final for just the third time. It’s the world No.8’s first time past the fourth round at Wimbledon.
Federer, a 20-time major winner, has been past the quarter-finals at seven of his last eight grand slam tournaments.
Federer is 4-0 against Anderson, though their last meeting was three years ago and this is their first encounter in a grand slam.
This is Federer’s biggest test at Wimbledon 2018 to date but it’s hard to see Anderson taking a set off him here.
