Palmerbet Sports Team’s daily preview serves up Australian Open tips for the clash between first-time slam quarter-finalists Roberto Bautista Agut and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

History: First meeting

Final Thoughts: Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas is the talk of the tennis world after dumping Roger Federer out of the Australian Open. But the 20-year-old must put aside the euphoria and concentrate on a tough quarter-final assignment against Roberto Bautista Agut.

All four of Tsitsipas’ matches in Melbourne have gone to four sets. He disposed of Matteo Berrettini, Viktor Troicki and Nikoloz Basilashvili to set up a meeting with Federer.

Tsitsipas showed unbelievable composure and endurance to outlast the G.O.A.T. 6-7 7-6 7-6 7-6. In just his seventh grand slam appearance, the boilover marked the first time he had reached a quarter-final.

But the tall tyro gave an indication he was building towards this sort of breakout run. He won the Stockholm Open and the Next Gen ATP Finals (beating Alex de Minaur) late last year to climb to No.15 in the world.

Bautista Agut, the 22nd seed, has carved an equally remarkable path through Melbourne.

He kicked off the campaign with five-set wins over Andy Murray and John Millman. The Spanish veteran gave up two-set leads in both before holding his nerve to win the deciders.

Bautista Agut then blasted past 10th seed Karen Khachanov in straight sets in the third round, before winning another five-set marathon against sixth seed Marin Cilic on Sunday.

He is also chasing in first grand slam quarter-final, having fallen in the fourth round on nine occasions – including at the 2014 and ’16-17 Australian Opens.

With both players displaying amazing staying power throughout the tournament, this one is too tight to call. But it seems inevitable that it will go the distance.
