Final thoughts: The Best of the Day preview breaks down the Tuesday night NBL action between also-ran rivals Adelaide 36ers and Cairns Taipans.
It’s been a tough campaign for the Taipans, who were a highly-fancied playoffs hope in the pre-season.
They have won just seven of 26 games and are coming off an 86-66 defeat to the Phoenix in their most recent outing.

The 11-16 Sixers’ finals chances nosedived with three losses in four games to finish April. But they thrashed the Bullets 101-79 on Friday in one of their more impressive efforts of the season.
Daniel Johnson (26 pts, 8 reb) was outstanding, while NBA Draft-bound Josh Giddey (15 pts, 11 reb, 13 ast) racked up a triple-double.

The Taipans have won six of their last seven against the Sixers.
The 36ers won 81-71 during the NBL Cup in Melbourne, but the Taipans have turned the tables with home victories by 79-65 and 91-88 since then. Cameron Oliver (25 pts, 17 reb) was dominant in the latter encounter in mid-April.
But Oliver was granted a release to return to the U.S. just days later on compassionate grounds – a huge blow to the Taipans’ roster.
The 36ers have won four of their last five against the Taipans in Adelaide and boast a 7-4 home record this season. The Taipans are just 3-12 away from Cairns.
The Sixers are on a much shorter turnaround (the Taipans haven’t played since Anzac Day) but nevertheless shape as a sound Best of the Day bet against the cellar dwellers.
