Final thoughts: The Best of the Day preview breaks down Game 3 of the National League Division Series in the MLB playoffs.

The Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers head to D.C. after splitting the first two games in LA.

The Dodgers opened up with a 6-0 shutout on Friday (AEST), powering away with two runs in bottom of the seventh and eighth innings.

Max Muncy played a key role with two hits and three RBI.

But the Nationals responded with a 4-2 win the following day after getting off to a three-runs-to-nil flyer two innings in.

The Nationals’ 35-year-old pitcher Max Scherzer – usually a starter – came out of the bullpen to shut down the Dodgers’ late comeback attempt.

Scherzer is set to start Game 3. Hyun-Jin Ryu (14-5 this season) is likely to be on the mound for the Dodgers.

It’s been a wild ride for Washington, who won their last eight regular-season games to snatch a Wild Card slot. They then edged the Brewers 4-3 in the NL Wild Card game.

The Dodgers – runaway leaders in the NL West with a 106-56 record – won their last seven regular-season games.

The Dodgers won two of their three games in Washington in July and have won 11 of their last 14 in the capital overall.

The Nationals are on a nine-game winning streak at home. The Dodgers have won their last seven on the road.

Despite the Nationals’ Game 2 bounce-back, the Dodgers are still the team to beat in the National League. In a crunch game, the Dodgers class should shine through.

Lean towards the under for more Best of the Day value, with seven of the teams’ last nine producing seven runs or less.
