Last weekend the Bulldogs – premiers in 2018 – kicked six goals in a 25-point thrashing of St Kilda.
Their fast start blew the Saints off the park, slotting five first-half goals. Bonnie Toogood finished with two, while American import Danielle Marshall bagged a goal with her first kick on debut.
The Demons held on for a two-point victory over North Melbourne in Round 1.
Young half forward Eden Zanker kicked the fourth-quarter winner in a tense, low-scoring affair. Kate Hore kicked two for Melbourne. Daisy Pearce also made an impressive return after missing the 2019 campaign to have twins.
It’s a promising start for the clubs after they finished in the bottom two spots in their AFLW conference in 2019.
The Bulldogs have brought in debutant Amelia Van Oosterwijck and Eleanor Brown for injured duo Celine Moody and Izzy Huntington. For the Demons, Niamh McEvoy replaces Madeleine Guerin.
The Demons won a one-point thriller in the penultimate round of last season. Tegan Cunningham kicked a superb late goal to pip the Bulldogs.

Both sides shape as genuine AFLW threats after last week’s impressive displays. But the underdog Bulldogs’ firepower should provide them with the Best of the Day edge in what shapes as another close-fought showdown.
