History: Played 11: Wales 9 V Fiji 1 (1 Draw)
Last meeting: October 1, 2015: Wales 23 d Fiji 13 at Millennium Stadium
Final thoughts: Wales will all but seal top spot in Pool D if they can account for Fiji on Wednesday night. Fiji, thanks to a shock loss earlier in group play, would need a minor miracle to reach the quarters even if they can snare an upset here.
The nations have been paired up for the fourth straight Rugby World Cup.
Fiji’s only Test win over Wales came during the 2007 RWC group stage – a famous 38-34 boilover in Nantes. But Wales exacted some revenge with a 66-0 drubbing at the 2011 tournament, while Fiji were gallant in a 23-13 loss in Cardiff in 2015.
Wales opened their 2019 Rugby World Cup campaign with a six-tries-to-two, 43-14 win over Georgia. They clocked off somewhat after leading 29-0 at halftime.
Wales then prevailed in the crunch game of Pool D, outlasting Australia 29-25 in a tense affair. The men in red led 23-8 at halftime before hanging on for dear life.
After letting a second-half lead slip in a 39-21 loss to the Wallabies first up, Fiji crashed to a 30-27 defeat to group minnows Uruguay.
But with their best side back on the paddock Fiji bounced back with a 45-10 thrashing of Georgia. Semi Radradra crossed twice as they piled on six tries in the second stanza.
Wales are taking no chances, naming a full-strength line-up. The return of back-rowers Ross Moriarty and James Davies are the only changes to their starting XV. Radradra remains on the wing for Fiji after playing the first two games at centre.
Wales are yet to put together anything resembling a complete 80-minute performance. Fiji have been even more enigmatic, but they shape as a decent option with a hefty 16.5-point start.
However, with all but one of the Pool D games to date producing 54 points or more, the over shapes as the best play in an intriguing clash.
