Week 1 of the NFL season is in the books and it’s one Jameis Winston and Matthew Stafford are celebrating in their new homes.
Lions Leave Roar Too Late
The start of the NRL season means the return of Bad Beat season and Week 1 didn’t turn out the way San Francisco 49ers -9.5 punters hoped it would. Or thought it would when the Niners went into halftime with a 31-10 lead…Nick Bosa even took his tape off when his team went 38-10 in front early into the 3rd quarter. However, those left on the field took that as a signal to check out of the game themselves.
In response, the Detroit Lions scored 23 points in three minutes throughout the 4th quarter to pull to within eight points late.

The Lions couldn’t quite complete the comeback.
Deebo Samuel gave them one last chance with his late fumble but the Lions turned the ball over on downs to give the 49ers a season-opening win.
There was a time last season where bad on-field behaviour became a weekly segment here. This time, though, a coach is also involved…
A Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach pushed Ronnie Harrison off a Chiefs player on the ground to which Harrison responded with a push of his own.
So that Chiefs coach can shove Ronnie Harrison for no ejection but Ronnie retaliates and he gets ejected????

However, only Harrison was ejected…The one positive is that the Cleveland Browns strong safety is unlikely to be suspended for the incident.
In the end, Harrison watched his Browns team drop a 12 point lead to more Patrick Mahomes magic. The superstar quarterback finished up with 337 yards and three touchdowns after digging his side out of an unfamiliar hole to start the season 1-0.
The Chiefs remain on the first line of betting to win Super Bowl LVI at $5.50.
Winston Winds Up
No sport can pull a strange stat out quite like the NFL and ESPN Stats and Info produced a goody on the back of Jameis Winston’s incredible debut for the New Orleans Saints:
Jameis Winston is the first QB in NFL history to throw 5 Pass TD with 0 Int in a season-opener in his first career start with a new team. Overall, he’s the 7th quarterback with 5 passing touchdowns & no interceptions in an opener & the 1st since Lamar Jackson in 2019.
Winston’s five touchdown passes came with only 148 total passing yards as the Saints thrashed the Green Bay Packers 38-3.
Despite it only being the first week of the NFL season, the Packers losing so heavily as -3.5 favourites is a slight cause for concern. It’s an important season for the franchise as they may be playing their last season with Aaron Rodgers behind centre. Green Bay’s $17 to win the Super Bowl will appeal to those not reading too much into this result, though.
Welcome To LA
So, is Matthew Stafford going to rid himself of his meme-like reputation now that he is part of the Los Angeles Rams franchise?
His debut suggests he is going to see a lot more success.

The former Detroit Lion was near perfect as he connected on 20 of his 26 throws for 321 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Finally surrounded by talent, Stafford looks the goods and so do the Rams who soundly beat the Chicago Bears 34-14 on Monday morning. Darrell Henderson Jr added 70 yards on the ground while Cooper Kupp impressed for his 108 receiving yards and touchdown.
It’s early days, but the Rams deserve a look on the third line of betting beside the Buffalo Bills $13.
NFL Against The Spread Standings
The Saints orchestrated the biggest cover of Week 1 by thrashing the Packers. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans both lost big as -3 favourites in their respective matches.
