With just two games left in the 2018 NFL regular season, Palmerbet Sports Team have NFL tips for the eight best match-ups of Week 16.
History: Played 12: Redskins 6 V Titans 6
Last meeting: October 19, 2014: Redskins 19 d Titans 17 at FedEx Field
Final Thoughts: The Washington Redskins and Tennessee Titans are both in the Wild Card mix, but the home side bring a far superior formline into this do-or-die clash.
The 8-6 Titans have won their last three, including a 17-0 shutout of the Giants in Week 16. Derrick Henry rushed for 170 yards and two TDs to back up their miserly defence.
The 7-7 Redskins arrested a four-game slide in the nick of time, edging the also-ran Jaguars 16-13 to stay in playoffs contention. While their defence improved markedly on recent outings, it was a long way short of a genuine form reversal.
The last three matches between these sides were decided by three points or less, while the Redskins have won their last two in Tennessee.
The Titans are 5-1 at home and head in as raging-hot favourites. They should get the win but with so much as stake expect the margin to be tighter than the line would suggest.
History: Played 11: Ravens 6 V Chargers 5
Last meeting: January 11, 2015: Ravens 29 d Chargers 26 at M&T Bank Stadium
Final Thoughts: The Baltimore Ravens and LA Chargers are both right in the frame to take out their respective divisions, despite sitting second with two games to go.
The 8-6 Ravens are only half a win shy of the Steelers in the AFC North. They have won four of their last five, bouncing back from an overtime loss to the hotshot Chiefs by grinding down the Buccaneers 20-12.
The Chargers joined Kansas City on an 11-3 record in the AFC West after pipping the Chiefs 29-28 on the road last weekend. It was their 10th win in 11 games and fourth straight.
These teams’ last three encounters were decided by three points or less. Another close match-up looms and the line looks about right. All of the Chargers’ last five games have produced 45-plus points and the over could be the most astute option in this one.
History: Played 118: Patriots 73 V Bills 43 (1 Tie)
Last meeting: October 29, 2018: Patriots 25 d Bills 6 at New Era Field
Final Thoughts: The New England Patriots are wobbling at the wrong time of the season. The lowly Buffalo Bills may just provide the opportunity for the heavyweights to get back on track and belatedly wrap up the AFC East title.
The 9-5 Pats have lost back-to-back games to the Dolphins (34-33) on the buzzer and the Steelers (17-10). Superstar duo Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski endured subpar games against the Steelers.
The 5-9 Bills have provided their fans with a few highlight during the second half of the regular season, winning three of their last five. Last week they came from behind to pip the Lions 14-13.
The Pats have won 27 of their last 30 against the Bills, including the last four straight by 16 points or more. New England grinded down Buffalo 25-6 with a fourth-quarter surge when the teams met earlier this season.
Expect a similarly convincing result as a bristling Brady lines up against rookie Bills QB Josh Allen.
History: Played 4: Eagles 4 V Texans 0
Last meeting: February 11, 2014: Eagles 31 d Texans 21 at NRG Stadium
Final Thoughts: With their season on life support and Carson Wentz injury, the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles turned to Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles. He again steered the Eagles’ ship in a 30-23 upset of the LA Rams that improved their record to 7-7. Remarkably, they are still a chance of jagging the NFC East title from the Cowboys.
This week the 10-4 Houston Texans stand in their way. The Texans’ nine-game winning streak was halted by the Colts in Week 14, but they responded with a 29-22 victory over the Jets last weekend. Quarterback DeShaun Watson’s outstanding campaign continued with a 294 yards and two touchdowns.
The Eagles are unbeaten in four previous clashes against the Texans, winning each by 10-plus margins. Three of the four encounters have produced 52 points or more.
The Texans have won five straight on the road and with Watson on fire, they shape as top value as underdogs against the up-and-down Eagles.
History: Played 8: Jaguars 4 V Dolphins 4
Last meeting: September 20, 2015: Jaguars 23 d Dolphins 20 at TIAA Bank Field
Final Thoughts: The Miami Dolphins’ playoff hopes hinge on a home assignment against the struggling Jacksonville Jaguars.
The 7-7 Dolphins came back to earth after their incredible last-play win over the Patriots, crushed 41-17 by the Vikings in Week 16. But if they win their last two against the Jags and Bills, and the Pats keep stumbling, the Dolphins could conceivably snare the AFC East title.
The 4-10 Jaguars have won just one of their last 10 games. The were edged out at home 16-13 by the desperate Redskins last weekend but appear to be marking time until the off-season.
The Dolphins have won three of the last four between the sides, but the Jaguars prevailed 23-20 in the most recent encounter. The Jags have a 1-1 record in Miami.
Miami are 6-1 at home and should comfortably take this out.
History: Played 15: Saints 8 V Steelers 7
Last meeting: November 30, 2014: Saints 35 d Steelers 32 at Heinz Field
Final Thoughts: Two division leaders square off in the Big Easy, but there’s more at stake for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With an 8-5-1 record, the Steelers have their nose in front of the Ravens in the AFC North. They snapped a potentially disastrous three-game losing streak by grafting their way to a 17-10 home win over the Patriots last week.
Boasting an NFL-best 12-2 record, the New Orleans Saints have the NFC South well and truly wrapped up. Since being rolled by the Cowboys in Week 13, the Saints have accounted for Tampa Bay (28-14) and Carolina (12-9).
The Saints have won three of their last four at home against the Steelers. Four of the teams’ last five encounters produced 51 points or more.
New Orleans’ rush defence is set to be the decisive factor here – particularly against a Pittsburgh offence that has been well short of its best recently and has running back James Conner in doubt.
History: Played 51: Chiefs 33 V Seahawks 18
Last meeting: November 16, 2014: Chiefs 24 d Seahawks 20 at Arrowhead Stadium
Final Thoughts: The Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks are both coming off a loss and have plenty to play for this weekend.
The 11-3 Chiefs are still atop their division but the Chargers have drawn level with them after a 29-28 result in an AFC West thriller. The Chiefs gave up an eight-point three-quarter time lead in the home loss.
The 8-6 Seahawks’ four-game winning streak ended with an agonising overtime loss to the lowly 49ers in Week 15. They can’t catch the Rams in the NFC West and their Wild Card spot is still very much up in the air.
The Chiefs have won six of their last eight against the Seahawks, but the Seahawks have won two of the last three in Seattle. The last four encounters produced 44-plus points.
A thrilling QB shootout between Patrick Mahomes (45 TDs, 11 INT) and Russell Wilson (31 TDs, 6 INTs), with the over an enticing option in a match that seems destined to go down to the wire.
History: Played 118: Raiders 63 V Broncos 52 (2 Ties)
Last meeting: September 16, 2018: Broncos 20 d Raiders 19 at Mile High Stadium
Final Thoughts: The sole Christmas Eve clash (Christmas Day AEDT) pits the Denver Broncos against the Oakland Raiders in an AFC West dead-rubber.
The 6-8 Broncos and 3-11 Raiders are both miles out of playoffs contention. After a bright three-game tear that included upsets of the Chargers and Steelers as well as a win over the Bengals, the Broncos have lost their last two to the unfancied 49ers (20-14) and Browns (17-16).
The Raiders, the owners of the equal-worst record in the league, also rolled the Steelers in Week 14. They came back to earth with a dismal 30-16 defeat to the Bengals.
The Broncos have won 11 of their last 14 against the Raiders. Denver rallied to down Oakland 20-19 at home earlier this season, but the ledger was one win apiece in each of the previous three seasons. The Raiders have beaten the Broncos in the last two at O.co Coliseum.
The Raiders will be eager to farewell the O.co Coliseum in style ahead of their mooted move to Las Vegas, but the Broncos have more upside and should get the win.
