The bell rings in the New Year at UFC 219 on Sunday, a card that features a main event featherweight title fight between champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino, and 36-year old, former bantamweight champion, Holly Holm. Palmerbet Sports Team take a look at both fighters!
- Cyborg – 18-1-0 (16 wins by KO)
- Holm – 11-3-0 (8 wins by KO).
- Cyborg def Tonya Evinger (KO/TKO) @ UFC 214, Anaheim California on July 29 2017
- Holm def Bethe Correia (KO/TKO) @ UFC Fight Night, Singapore on June 17 2017
After stunning Tonya Evinger just five months ago to claim her first UFC championship, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino has quickly become a revered name in the mixed martial arts world. It’s been a decade of dominance for the 32-year old, and her vicious and highly aggressive brawling skills place her as a firm $1.28 favourite ahead of Sunday’s bout.
Cyborg has become well known for a fierce ground and pound attack, and although her grappling skills have advanced recently, Cyborg’s approach is always to jump on her opponent and throw haymakers until the finish. Fortunately for her opponent, Holly Holm, she can rest easy knowing a surprise submission attempt is unlikely, much like the one she fell victim to against Miesha Tate at UFC 196. Better yet, Holm’s outstanding boxing skills make her a pretty likable underdog at $3.72, and if the former multi-division world champion can land her patented left high kick early in the fight, things could become interesting quickly.
At the same time, expect Holm to be cautious in this one. She’ll likely look to keep her distance, purely due to the fact that if Cyborg takes her down, the fight could be over within seconds. Cyborg is the stronger and more physical grappler on the ground, and since Holm is relying so heavily on her kickboxing ability, it does leave her vulnerable to her opponents relentless attack. This should be a close fight that could last the distance, but unless Holm lands that kick early, Cyborg’s newly refined boxing skills and counter ability should see her retain.
