Final Thoughts: The week gets underway with what is effectively a dead-rubber, though Sri Lanka are still clinging to hopes of miraculously qualifying for the Cricket World Cup semis.
Sri Lanka need to beat West Indies and India, improve their run-rate and hope a couple of other results fall their way.
The enigmatic Windies are well out of contention, having won just one game. After losing a thriller to New Zealand by five runs, they were swamped by India in a 125-run defeat. The Caribbean outfit were bowled out for just 143.
Sri Lanka stunned England in a 20-run victory but crashed to a nine-wicket loss to embattled South Africa on Friday.
No Sri Lanka batsman could manage more than 30 as they crawled to 203 all out.
Kusal Perera is Sri Lanka’s leading batsman at the tournament with a modest 191 runs at 38.20. Chris Gayle (200 at 33.33) leads the way for West Indies but they have not seen his best often enough.
Sri Lanka have won seven of their last nine completed ODIs against West Indies. But they have not played in the 50-over format since 2015, when their two Tri-Series games in Zimbabwe were split one apiece.
The Windies’ last Cricket World Cup win over Sri Lanka was in 1992. Their last CWC meeting was in 2007, with Sri Lanka swamping the host nation by 113 runs.
West Indies are warm $1.48 favourites, despite playing only for pride. Gifted keeper-batsman Shai Hope has been disappointing aside from a sparkling 96 against Bangladesh, but he is one player capable of finishing the tournament with a flourish.
