History: Played 34: New Zealand 24 V Bangladesh 10

Last meeting: February 20, 2019: New Zealand d Bangladesh by 88 runs at University Oval

Final Thoughts: Bangladesh and New Zealand are both looking to back up strong campaign-opening wins at the Cricket World Cup.

Bangladesh staged the tournament’s first boilover on Sunday, beating heavyweights South Africa by 21 runs.

Mushfiqur Rahim (78) and Shakib Al Hasan (75) held together their innings of 6/330. The bowling unit all contributed, with Mustafizur Rahman taking three wickets.

New Zealand could not have been much more dominant in a 10-wicket thrashing of Sri Lanka on Saturday.

Lockie Ferguson (3/22) and Matt Henry (3/29) were the chief destroyers as Sri Lanka were skittled for 136. Openers Martin Guptill (73* off 51) and Colin Munro (58* off 47) needed just 16.1 overs to pick off the target.

Henry and Munro will get another chance to impress, with Henry Nicholls and Tim Southee still battling injury.

Bangladesh have won nine of their last 17 completed ODIs against New Zealand. But seven of those victories were in series cleansweeps in home series in 2010 and ’13.

They can, however, take confidence from ODI wins against the Black Caps in Dublin and Cardiff in 2017. New Zealand grabbed a nervy three-wicket win in Hamilton at the 2015 Cricket World Cup.

But New Zealand blitzed Bangladesh 3-0 at home in February – two matches by 8-wicket margins and the other by 88 runs.

Guptill scored back-to-back centuries in that series and looked in outstanding touch against Sri Lanka. Expect the mercurial Kiwi opener to lead the charge in a match the methodical New Zealanders should win comfortably.
