Last meeting: October 30, 2019: Australia d Sri Lanka by 9 wickets at The Gabba
Final Thoughts: Australia destroyed Sri Lanka in the first two Twenty20 internationals in Adelaide and Brisbane. The hosts will accept nothing less than completing an emphatic cleansweep at the MCG on Friday, however.
David Warner blasted a maiden T20I century at Adelaide Oval, scoring 100 not out off just 56 balls. Aaron Finch (64 off 36) and Glenn Maxwell (62 off 28) also delighted the home crowd as Australia reached a mammoth 2/233.
Sri Lanka could only muster 9/99 in reply with Adam Zampa (3/14) the chief destroyer for Australia.
The tourists were skittled for just 117 at The Gabba. Kusal Perera notched Sri Lanka’s highest score of the series so far – a modest 27 – while Zampa, Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins and Billy Stanlake all bagged two wickets.
Warner (60* off 41) and Steve Smith (53* off 36) continued their return to public favour with an unbeaten 117-run stand, leading Australia to a nine-wicket win.
Warner’s dual man-of-the-match performances was a welcome relief after a dreadful Ashes campaign from the opener.
Australia have now won five of their last seven T20Is against Sri Lanka. But Sri Lanka still boast a 5-3 all-time record in the format against Australia in Australia.
Australia are just $1.10 to make it a 3-0 whitewash. Warner has shortened to a skinny $4.50 to be the Top Batsman for the third match in a row.
On the other side of the fence, Sri Lanka will be hoping for a form revival from Kusal Mendis. The opener has made 0 and 1 so far in the series, but boasts five fifties in his previous 13 T20I innings – including a career-high 79 recently against New Zealand.
