Final Thoughts: After a historic Test series loss to India, Australia turn their attention to a three-match ODI series against the world’s No.2-ranked team in the format.
Australia have recalled veterans Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon and Usman Khawaja for the series. Travis Head, Chris Lynn and D’Arcy Short were left out. Test pace trio Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins have been rested.
Meanwhile, Mitch Marsh will miss at least the first clash with illness. Perth Scorchers teammate Ashton Turner comes in as cover.
MS Dhoni and Shikhar Dhawan are the most notable additions to a line-up spearheaded by Test stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
India won the most recent series between the nations – 4-1 in India in 2017. But Australia have a dominant record against India on home soil.
The Aussies have won nine of their last 11 completed ODIs against India at home, including a 4-1 series win in early-2016. India’s sole win in that series came at the SCG, but Australia boast a 13-2 record at the ground against India.
Australia lost their home ODI series against South Africa in November 2-1 and were trounced 5-0 away by England midyear. India went down 2-1 in England in July but thrashed South Africa 5-1 in South Africa earlier in the year.
With the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis in dazzling Big Bash form, Australia may just have the edge against an India side coming off an all-consuming Test campaign. Australia have just four players who played in the SCG Test last week and provide genuine underdog value.
