The daily Big Bash League preview charges down the wicket with BBL tips for a massive derby between Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers.

BBL Tips – Sydney Thunder V Sydney Sixers

19:15 (AEDT), Wed 13th Jan @ Manuka Oval, Canberra

History: Played 17: Sixers 11 V Thunder 6

Last meeting: January 18, 2020: Thunder d Sixers by 4 runs (DLS) at Sydney Showground

Final Thoughts: The first Sydney derby of BBL|10 sees the Sixers and Thunder occupying the top two spots on the ladder with identical 6-3 records.

But the Big Bash title hopefuls have been in the New Year, both losing two of their last four.

After a 39-run win over the Hurricanes last Thursday, the Thunder lost to the Scorchers by 17 runs on Saturday. Brendan Doggett took 4/22 and Sam Billings smashed a Thunder season-high 83 off 48, but the pair received limited support.

The Sixers bounced back from an embarrassing 86-run defeat to the Scorchers last Wednesday with a three-wicket victory over the in-form Heat on Sunday.

Carlos Braithwaite (4/18) helped restrict the Heat to 148. Dan Christian (61* off 38) brilliantly steered the Sixers to a last-ball win after skipper Daniel Hughes (51 off 35) earlier held the chase together.

Despite a couple of recent failures, Josh Philippe (273 runs at 30.33) is the Sixers top runscorer and fourth in the BBL. Hughes (264 at 33) is hot on his teammate’s heels. Alex Hales (269 at 29.88) leads the way for the Thunder. Callum Ferguson (244 at 30.50) and Usman Khawaja (239 at 29.87) have also contributed regular runs.

Braithwaite and Ben Dwarshuis have both taken a team-high 11 wickets for the Sixers. Tanveer Sangha has claimed 15 scalps in nine matches for the Thunder.

The archrivals split a pair of BBL|09 cliff-hangers. The Sixers won a Super Over thriller at the SCG in late-December. Rival captains Ferguson (52 off 42) and Moises Henqriques (41 off 30) top-scored as the teams finished tied on 149.

The Thunder won a rain-shortened Sydney Showground showdown by four runs.

The Thunder are the narrowest of favourites to take the honours – and subsequently first rung on the BBL ladder – in Canberra. But the form spike of Braithwaite and Christian bodes well for the Sixers, who were already laced with in-form match-winners.

Tip: Result – Sixers @ $1.95
