Tuesday’s Big Bash League preview charges down the wicket with BBL tips for the Sydney Thunder’s crunch home clash with the Brisbane Heat.
History: Played 7: Heat 6 V Thunder 1
Last meeting: December 27, 2017: Heat d Thunder by 6 wickets at The Gabba
Final Thoughts: The Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat are both aiming to haul their way out of the Big Bash League’s bottom half.
The Heat have a couple of games up their sleeve but need to improve on a 1-3 record. The 3-3 Thunder have lost three of their last four to drop to fifth.
Brisbane got off the mark in BBL08 on Saturday, downing the struggling Scorchers by five wickets in Perth. Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s mesmerising 2/10 off four overs restricted the Scorchers to 134 before Ben Cutting’s 26* off 16 guided the Heat to victory with 10 balls left.
Chris Lynn (179 at 44.75) is the Heat’s leading batsman but they will be after far more from the likes of Brendon McCullum, Jimmy Peirson and Joe Burns.
Sydney went down the Stars by eight wickets on the Gold Coast on Saturday. Daniel Sams (42 off 25) played a lone hand as the Thunder limped to 8/135. Their bowlers struggled as the Stars cruised home with 16 balls remaining.
Jos Buttler (268 at 44.66) is BBL08’s top run-scorer but no other Thunder batsmen have stood out regularly.
The Heat’s dominant 6-1 record against the Thunder includes victories in the last three games between the sides.
Last season Peirson (43 off 39), Lynn (25 off 9), Burns (45* off 35) and Alex Ross (25* off 9) guided the Heat to a six-wicket win with just one ball to spare in a rain-affected clash in Brisbane after Shane Watson’s 56 off 34 spearheaded the Thunder’s total of 4/149 off 17 overs.
Buoyed by their breakthrough win in Perth, the Heat shape as the smart bet against a stumbling Thunder.
