The daily Big Bash League preview charges down the wicket with BBL tips as Perth Scorchers turn the tables on Adelaide Strikers.
History: Played 17: Strikers 9 V Adelaide 8
Last meeting: December 28, 2020: Strikers d Scorchers by 71 runs at Adelaide Oval
Final Thoughts: Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers square off at Adelaide Oval for the second time in four days. The bottom-placed Scorchers – already behind the eight-ball as far as the BBL playoffs are concerned – are out to avoid a second landslide loss at the hands of the in-form Strikers.
Opener Phil Salt (51 off 31) and a late-innings flourish from Rashid Khan (29 off 13) helped Adelaide to 8/165 in Monday’s clash. Jhye Richardson took 3/30 for Perth and Mitch Marsh – bowling for the first time this season – was outstanding with 2/14 from his four overs.
But the Scorchers’ batsmen failed to fire en masse as the crumbled to 94 all out. Liam Livingstone (22 off 24) top-scored, while explosive Englishman Jason Roy (21 off 11) produced a handy cameo in his first outing of the BBL campaign. Each of the Strikers’ five bowlers took two wickets.
The Scorchers are the only team without a win, recording three losses and a no result. Their batting has been an obvious weakness, Ashton Turner their top runscorer with 88 runs at 22.
The 3-2 Strikers have won three of their last four. Peter Siddle (10 wickets at 14.8) is the BBL’s top wicket-taker. Salt and Jake Weatherald have led the South Australian outfit’s batting charge.
In a pick ’em game, backing the Strikers is a no-brainer.
