The daily Big Bash League preview charges down the wicket with BBL tips as Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades lock horns again.
History: Played 13: Strikers 9 V Renegades 4
Last meeting: January 5, 2021: Strikers d Renegades by 60 runs at Adelaide Oval
Final Thoughts: Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades head down to Adelaide Oval together for the second time this week.
Any faint chance the bottom-placed Renegades have of contending for a BBL playoffs spot hinge on reversing Tuesday’s 60-run blowout, while a repeat would help the Strikers in their bid to consolidate a place inside the top five.
After a somewhat shaky top-order performance, the Strikers put up 5/171 courtesy of a 96-run stand from Ryan Gibson (43* off 31) and Jake Weatherald (51 off 25). Imad Wasim (2/13) was the pick of the Renegades bowlers.
Mackenzie Harvey (34 off 29) and Sam Harper (31 off 30) revived the ’Gades’ run chase after out-of-sorts skipper Aaron Finch was out caught-behind on the first ball of the innings. But the pair was dismissed in consecutive overs and the cellar dwellers crumbled to 119 all out.
The win was the Strikers’ fourth straight against the Renegades, prevailing by 18 runs and 63 runs in BBL|09.
Adelaide are now fourth with a 4-4 record. Their much-needed win over the Renegades came on the back of seven-wicket losses to the Scorchers and Sixers.
The 1-7 Renegades have lost seven straight are 11 points off fifth place. They have lost four matches by 60-plus runs. The $2.47 underdogs are also impossible to back with any confidence in this match.
Strikers opener Phil Salt has been out for three single-figure scores since his half-century against the Scorchers on December 28. He’ll be eager to contribute to another victory for his team.
