The daily Big Bash League preview charges down the wicket with BBL tips for the Sydney Sixers’ showdown with the Adelaide Strikers in Coffs Harbour.
History: Played 10: Strikers 5 V Sixers 5
Last meeting: January 29, 2019: Sixers d Strikers by 8 wickets at SCG
Final Thoughts: Second hosts third as the 2019-20 BBL season settles into its groove.
The 4-2 Sydney Sixers have won their last three straight games. They bookended a Super Over derby win against the Thunder with solid victories over the Scorchers (48 runs) and Renegades (6 wickets).
Lloyd Pope (2/22) and man-of-the-match James Vince (41 off 26) set the platform for the win over the Renegades, which came with just one ball to spare.
The Strikers are well-placed with a 3-1 record and one no result. But they are coming off their first loss of the season, a three-run defeat to the Thunder at Adelaide Oval.
Jake Weatherald (52 off 37) top-scored for the second time in this campaign and Rashid Khan smashed a spectacular 40 off 18 down the order, but it was not quite enough to chase down the target of 169.
The Sixers took out both encounters between the sides last season.
Jake Weatherald (50 off 40) and Jonathan Wells (42 off 29) saw the Strikers through to 5/150 in Adelaide. But Joe Denley’s brilliant 76 not out off 60 – plus a quick-fire 30 not out off 15 from Philippe – carried the Sixers to a six-wicket victory with 10 balls to spare.
It was even more convincing in Sydney. Ben Dwarshuis (3/7) and Moises Henriques (61* off 31) starred in an eight-wicket Sixers success.
Henriques will miss this game, however.
Both teams could get big bowling inclusions, with Test squad pacemen Josh Hazlewood (Sixers) and Michael Neser (Strikers) available.
The Sixers provide punters with plenty of value as $2.15 underdogs. Look to big-hitting keepers Josh Philippe (Sixers) and Alex Carey (Strikers) – the leading run-scorers for their respective teams – as the best Top Batsman options.
