The daily Big Bash League preview charges down the wicket with BBL tips as Sydney Sixers aim to put a stop to Perth Scorchers’ hot streak.
History: Played 17: Scorchers 11 V Sixers 6
Last meeting: January 6, 2021: Scorchers d Sixers by 86 runs at Optus Stadium
Final Thoughts: Table-topping Sydney Sixers boast a six-point lead on the BBL|10 field – and they are nine points clear of third-placed Perth Scorchers. But the Scorchers are on a blistering five-match winning streak that is showing little sign of slowing down.
The Scorchers demolished the Sixers by 86 runs in Perth last week. Mitch Marsh (57* off 27) and Colin Munro (50 off 34) steered the home side to 4/183, before Andrew Tye (4/20) and Jhye Richardson (3/15) combined to skittle the Sixers for just 97.
The 7-3 Sixers have rallied since that glaring blip.
Dan Christian (61* off 38) led the defending champs to a last-ball, three-wicket win over the Heat last Sunday. Steve O’Keefe (3/15) and Josh Philippe (64 off 36) spearheaded a five-wicket derby victory against the Thunder on Wednesday night.
Scorchers emerge as Big Bash title threat
Since routing the Sixers, the Scorchers have chalked up two more impressive wins.
Munro (50 off 41) posted a third straight half-century, but Richardson (20* off 8 and 4/24) was player of the match in a 17-run defeat of the Thunder.
English openers Jason Roy (74* off 52) and Liam Livingstone (54 off 39) exploded on Tuesday as the Scorchers coasted to a nine-wicket victory over the Hurricanes.
But the Scorchers – $1.80 favourites tonight – have played their last four games at home and will need to readjust to life on the road, where they are 1-3 this season.
Roy, who has scored 212 runs at 42.4 in six matches since arriving, shapes as a trump card in the Scorchers’ compelling BBL title bid. Expect the blockbusting Brit to make a big impact again at Manuka Oval.
