The daily Big Bash League preview charges down the wicket with BBL tips as Brisbane Heat try to keep their roll going against the heavyweight Sydney Sixers.
History: Played 13: Sixers 10 V Heat 3
Last meeting: January 2, 2021: Heat d Sixers by 4 wickets at The Gabba
Final Thoughts: Resurgent Brisbane Heat are aiming for their second BBL|10 win over defending champs Sydney Sixers on Sunday night.
The 4-4 Heat’s current three-match winning streak began with a four-wicket upset of the Sixers last Saturday. Josh Philippe (48 off 36) top-scored and Jordan Silk (43 off 27) also starred as the Sixers reached 8/165 at The Gabba, while Mark Steketee took four wickets for the Heat.
The hosts reached the target with seven balls remaining. Max Bryant (40 off 23) got the Heat’s chase off to a flyer before some big hitting from Lewis Gregory (31* off 16) and Jack Wildermuth (22* off 10) sealed the deal.
Heat gather steam, Sixers stumble
Brisbane subsequently downed the ladder-leading Thunder by five wickets, with Test discard Joe Burns (52 off 38) named Player of the Match. Skipper Chris Lynn scored 30 in his return from a four-game layoff, before blasting 48 off 30 in the Heat’s 17-run win over the Stars in a 10-overs-a-side clash on Thursday.
The Sixers bounced back from their loss to the Heat with a comfortable seven-wicket win over the Strikers the next day. Philippe (41 off 24), James Vince (45* off 33) and Silk (38* off 28) saw the Sydneysiders through to the target with two overs to spare.
But they have slipped to second on the BBL ladder courtesy of Wednesday’s jarring 86-run loss ot the Scorchers. Chasing 184 for victory, the Sixers were skittled for 97 with Jack Edwards (44 off 38) their only batsmen to fire.
The Sixers are $1.78 favourites, but with Lynn and Vince finding form I’m backing the Heat in for a fourth straight victory as they vie to hang onto their spot in the top five.
