Palmerbet Sports Team’s Best of the Day preview takes an in-depth look at the lowly Parramatta Eels’ clash with the on-fire South Sydney Rabbitohs as Round 15 of the NRL gets underway.

History: Played 124: South Sydney 67 V Parramatta 54 (3 Draws).

Last meeting: Round 26, 2017: Parramatta 22 d South Sydney 16 at ANZ Stadium.

The battling Parramatta Eels scored a morale-boosting win over a fellow cellar-dweller last week, but their Round 15 task is an NRL Everest in comparison with the South Sydney Rabbitohs aiming for seven straight victories.

The third-placed Rabbitohs’ streak includes quality wins over high-flying clubs the Dragons, Warriors and Sharks – the latter without their State of Origin contingent.

Coach Anthony Seibold’s gamble to rest his rep players against the Titans last week paid dividends with a hard-fought 18-16 away win over the Titans.

Origin stars Greg Inglis, Dane Gagai, Damien Cook and Angus Crichton return this week, which sees Cameron Murray and Adam Doeihi drop back to a super-talented bench.

The Eels downed the struggling Cowboys 20-14 in Darwin last Saturday to snap a five-game losing streak and chalk up just their third win of the season. A rally to make the finals still feels like a very unrealistic dream, however.

Manu Ma’u returns to bolster Parramatta’s forward pack, while halfback Mitchell Moses is an outside chance of coming back after being named on the extended bench.

At ANZ Stadium – a ground both teams currently call home – the Rabbitohs have won eight of their last 11 (4-1 this season), while the Eels have won 13 of their last 22 (2-6 in 2018).

Souths have won nine of their last 13 against Parramatta, but the Eels have won the last three. Four of the last five encounters were decided by six points or less.

The Eels prevailed by identical 22-16 scorelines in Rounds 12 and 26 last season.

But it will take a monumental defensive effort for the blue-and-golds to make it four straight, or even continue the trend of close matches between the clubs. The Rabbitohs’ forward pack is making mincemeat of opposition engine-rooms and their red-hot backline is cashing in on a weekly basis – this could be a blowout.
