The 23-27 Warriors have tumbled to 1oth in the Western Conference after losing seven of their last eight. After beating the Bulls 116-102 at home, the Dubs have dropped their last three on the road to the Heat (116-109), Raptors (130-77) and Hawks (117-111).
Reports of heated locker-room arguments and ill feelings among teammates suggest a turnaround is some time away.
The 32-17 Bucks, third in the East, are in the middle of a stretch of 10-game stretch of which nine are on the road. But they have won their last three, beating the Lakers (112-197) before accounting for the Trail Blazers (127-109) and Kings (129-128) on a back-to-back.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (47 pts, 12 reb) was unstoppable in Portland – hitting 18 of 18 two-point attempts – while Jrue Holiday (33 pts, 7 reb, 11 ast), Brook Lopez (26 pts) and Donte DiVincenzo (12 pts, 14 reb, 7 ast) stepped up against Sacramento as Giannis had a rest.
The Bucks have won four of their last five against the Warriors, including a 138-99 Milwaukee-hosted blowout on Christmas Day.
Anteotkounmpo (15 pts, 13 reb) took a backseat somewhat as Khris Middleton (31 pts, 5 ast) led the way. Bobby Portis had a double-double off the bench. Steph Curry was restricted to 19 points on a night where the Warriors shot at just 33.4 percent from the floor, while the Bucks hit 55.6 percent of their shots.
The Warriors are 14-9 at home; the Bucks are 14-10 on the road. But the teams are poles apart on overall quality and recent form.
Golden State are ranked 23rd for points conceded per game, which spells trouble against a Milwaukee outfit that scores more points per outing than any team in the NBA.
