The daily preview muscles into the paint with NBA tips for a Western Conference blockbuster between Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz.

History: Played 203: Suns 103 V Jazz 100
Last meeting: April 7, 2021: Suns 117 d Jazz 113 (OT) at Phoenix Suns Arena
Final Thoughts: Top spot in the Western Conference goes on the line as Phoenix Suns aim to join Utah Jazz on a 45-18 record.
The surging Suns have won 16 of their last 20 games. After back-to-back losses in Boston and Brooklyn, the Suns halted the Knicks’ winning streak in New York and outlasted LA Clippers at home.
‘MVP’ chants rung out at Phoenix Suns Arena as Chris Paul (28 pts, 10 ast) lit it up against the Clippers.
The Jazz have been reeled in by the chasing pack thanks to six losses in their last 13 games. But after twice going down the lowly Timberwolves in the space of three days, the NBA leaders walloped the Kings 154-105 in their most recent outing.
The lead was 32 points at halftime and Utah went on with the job. Eight Jazz players finished with 10-plus points – headed by Bojan Bogdanovic (24 pts). The team finished 64% from the field, including 58.5% from three-point range.
The onslaught was achieved without offensive spearhead Donovan Mitchell, who missed his sixth straight game with an ankle complaint.
Suns silence Jazz tune
After losing 15 of their previous 16 in the rivalry, the Suns have won their last three against the Jazz.
Phoenix have won both encounters so far this season. Devin Booker (25 pts, 7 ast) spearheaded a 106-95 result in Salt Lake City on New Year’s Eve.
Booker top-scored with 35 points in a 117-113 OT win three weeks ago at home, while Paul (29 pts, 9 ast) was influential. Donovan Mitchell (41 pts, 8 reb) and Rudy Gobert (16 pts, 18 reb) were impressive for the beaten Jazz, who had fought back from 10 points down at halftime.
The Suns are an outstanding 24-9 at home (21-12 ATS), winning 11 of their last 12 in Phoenix. The Jazz are 19-13 on the road (16-16 against the start) and have lost four of their last seven away games.
With CP3 and Booker, along with the likes of Deandre Ayton, in sparkling form for the Suns – along with Mitchell’s ongoing absence from the Jazz line-up – I’m siding with the hosts as warm favourites here.
