Final Thoughts: Dallas Mavericks are looking to lock down a top-six seed in the Western Conference when they host Toronto Raptors, who are out of the running in the East.
The 41-29 Mavericks are clinging to sixth spot in the West, one win ahead of the Lakers (who have a game in hand). They have been impressive in recent weeks, winning eight of their last 10.
After copping a 133-104 beating in Memphis earlier this week, they responded with a 125-107 home win over the Pelicans the next day. Luka Doncic (33 pts, 8 reb, 8 ast) dominated – including hitting seven three-pointers – while Tim Hardaway Jr (27 pts) contributed well and Kristaps Porzingis had 19 points in his return from injury.
The 27-43 Raptors have lost eight of their last nine – including the last five straight. They have lost to the Grizzlies, Clippers and Bulls by double-digit margins in the past week. Star players Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakam have been on the injured list for recent games.
The Raptors have won nine of their last 11 against the Mavericks – including an emphatic 116-93 victory in Toronto in January.
Kyle Lowry (23 pts, 9 reb, 7 ast) and Chris Boucher (21 pts, 10 reb) starred for the Raptors. Porzingis (23 pts, 9 reb) top-scored for the Mavs as Doncic was held to just 15 points.
The Mavericks are 20-15 at home (15-20 against the line) – slightly worse than their away record. The Raptors are just 11-24 on the road (15-20 ATS), losing six of their last seven away.
There’s too much at stake for Dallas and too many big outs for Toronto, who have little to play for, to back against the hosts. It’s a big line but I’m tipping the Mavs to cover.
