Final Thoughts: Top-seeded Utah Jazz will look to take a stranglehold on their First Round series against plucky Memphis Grizzlies in Game 4.
The Jazz have fought back to a 2-1 lead after dropping the series opener 112-109 at home. Dillon Brooks and Ja Morant combined for 57 points in the Grizzlies’ Game 1 boilover.
But fast-starting Utah drew level with a 141-129 victory in Game 2. Donovan Mitchell returned from injury with 25 points – including five three-pointers – while Rudy Gobert (21 pts, 13 reb) and Mike Conley (20 pts, 15 ast) were outstanding.
Morant’s 47-point night was in vain.
Former Grizzlies stalwart Conley (27 pts, 6 reb, 8 ast) made an impressive return to Memphis, hitting seven of 10 three-point attempts in a 121-111 Game 3 result. The Jazz again got out to a handy first-quarter lead to lay the platform.
Morant (28 pts) led a Grizzlies rally that put them in front inside the final five minutes. But Mitchell scored 10 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter as the Jazz finished on a 14-2 run to wrap up the go-ahead win.
It’s do or die for the Grizzlies – they can’t afford to go back to Salt Lake City 3-1 down. But they have a worse record at home than away, going 19-19 at FedExForum (20-18 against the line). The Jazz are 22-15 on the road (19-18 ATS).
Mitchell’s return has reinvigorated Utah’s offence and their NBA-best three-point shooting is killing the Grizzlies. The momentum is theirs and I’m expecting the Jazz to roll on in Game 4.
