The NBA season has entered the Mundane March holding pattern as we all wait for the playoffs to begin. Surprisingly, Kenny Atkinson won’t be there. It looked for a moment like Giannis Antetokounmpo wouldn’t be either.

Nets Sack Kenny

The whole NBA world reacted the same way when hearing the Kenny Atkinson would no longer be head coach of the Brooklyn Nets…

The team has been careful with their words choosing to say they’ve “mutually agreed to part ways” while general manager, Sean Marks, added, “it’s time for a different voice in the locker room.”

Still, the news comes as a shock. There hasn’t been any talk of a possible coaching change despite the Nets playing with a below-500 record at 28-34. With Kevin Durant out all season and Kyrie Irving also missing most of it, this always felt like a gap-year for the franchise.

Apparently not.

Jacque Vaughn will take over for the rest of the 2019-20 NBA season.

Most Improved Player Award Update

Awards chatter consumes NBA media for most of the season, but the Most Improved Player award tends to fly under the radar.

Brandon Ingram made the most of his time as the primary scorer for the New Orleans Pelicans while Zion Williamson sat out injured. The former Laker is averaging 24.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game to be on the first line of betting at $2.25.

At $4.50, Bam Adebayo carries plenty of value. He’s announced himself to the league this season and has quickly become an NBA fan favourite. Excellent as a scorer, playmaker and defender, Adebayo’s 16 points, 10.5 rebounds, 5 assists and 1.3 blocks per game dwarf his 2018-19 numbers (8.9/7.3/2.2/0.8).

While Luka Doncic is on the third line of betting at $5, this feels like a two-horse race.

Giannis Tumbles

Only a long term injury would stop Giannis Antetokounmpo from winning the Most Valuable Player this season.

He’s a $1.08 lock for MVP with less than a quarter of the regular season remaining.

His impressive season almost came tumbling down as he fell in a tangled heap in the Milwaukee Bucks loss to the Los Angeles Lakers during the week.

LeBron James outplayed Antetokounmpo on the night, but the Lakers forward is unlikely to close the gap in the MVP markets from $10.20.
