Final Thoughts: The undefeated Denver Nuggets host a Dallas Mavericks side that has made a promising 2-1 start to the NBA season.
The Nuggets are 3-0, beating the Blazers (108-100) and Kings (101-94) on the road either side of a one-point overtime eclipse of the Suns at home.
Linchpin center Nikola Jokic has made a typically strong start, averaging 17.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He racked up a dominant triple-double against Phoenix.
The Mavs got off to a flyer with wins over the Wizards (108-100) and Pelicans (123-116). Portland slowed Dallas’ roll in a 121-119 result two days ago.
Luka Doncic has been super-impressive to begin his second NBA campaign. The 20-year-old guard is averaging 31 points, 10.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists. Big man recruit Kristaps Porzingis has also starred, top-scoring with 32 points against the Blazers.
The Nuggets have won eight of the last 10 between the teams, including all three clashes last season. The Mavericks have lost six straight in Denver.
Denver are a formidable prospect at home, going 34-7 last season. Dallas were a miserable 9-32 on the road in finishing second-last in the West, but they shape as a genuine playoff hope this year.
One of the keys for the Mavericks is limiting the Nuggets’ outside shooting, which has been excellent so far. Porzingis and Doncic matching the influence of Jokic and Jamal Murray is also imperative for the visitors – but they look a solid chance against the line.
