Final Thoughts: The top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks took their first step to the franchise’s first NBA Finals appearance since 1974 with a comeback win over the Toronto Raptors in Game 1.
The Raptors – who are yet to reach an NBA Finals – led by 11 at the end of the first quarter and by eight at halftime. But the Bucks rallied to a 108-100 victory thanks to a dominant 32-17 final quarter.
And it wasn’t the usual suspect who grabbed the headlines for Milwaukee. Giannis Antetokounmpo (24 pts, 14 reb, 6 ast) was influential, but center Brook Lopez was the scene-stealer with 29 points and 11 boards.
Kawhi Leonard (31 pts, 9 reb) and Kyle Lowry (30 pts, 8 reb) were both strong for Toronto, but they were powerless to stop the Bucks’ charge.
After winning four straight games to eliminate Orlando 4-1, the Raptors prevailed in a gruelling series with Philadelphia sealed by Kawhi Leonard’s already-iconic Game 7 buzzer-beater.
The Bucks have enjoyed an easier run through the post-season. They swamped the Pistons 4-0, then breezed past the Celtics 4-1 after dropping Game 1.
The Bucks have now won five of their last six against the Raptors.
The Raptors went 26-15 on the road during the regular season and are 3-3 in these playoffs. The Bucks crafted a 33-8 home record during the regular season and are 5-1 in the playoffs.
Game 1 was a bitterly disappointing lost opportunity for the Raptors. After a let-off, the Bucks should be primed for a stronger four-quarter performance to take a convincing 2-0 lead to Toronto.
