Final Thoughts: The Golden State Warriors’ NBA reign is under severe threat heading into Game 4 against the Toronto Raptors, who lead 2-1.
The Raptors initally rattled the Warriors’ cage with a 118-109 home win in the franchise’s maiden NBA Finals appearance. But Golden State responded with a 109-104 victory in Game 2, overturning a five-point halftime deficit.
Klay Thompson top-scored for the Warriors in Game 2 but was ruled out of the following clash. With Steph Curry (47 pts, 8 reb, 7ast) effectively playing a lone hand for the hosts, the Raptors won all four quarters in a 123-109 Game 3 success at Oracle Arena.
Kawhi Leonard continued his outstanding Finals campaign with 30 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. But Kyle Lowry (23 pts, 9 ast) and Pascal Siakam (18 pts, 9 reb, 6 ast) also contributed strongly.
Kevin Durant’s return from injury has been delayed at least another game but Thompson is slated to play.
Golden State have won 13 of their last 15 against Toronto at home. But the Raptors have now won their last two at Oracle Arena. They surged to a 113-93 victory in the teams’ regular-season clash in Oakland – despite Leonard’s absence.
Since their infamous collapse in the 2016 NBA Finals, the Warriors have won 25 of 29 home playoffs. The Raptors are 5-4 on the road in these playoffs.
Golden State are staring down the barrel here – they can’t go back to Toronto 3-1 down. But with Thompson back and Curry on fire, the Warriors should level up.
