Final Thoughts: The Western Conference Semi-finals series between the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets is on a knife’s edge heading into Game 4.
The Warriors crafted a 2-0 lead with home wins by 104-100 and 115-109. Kevin Durant top-scored in both games with 35 and 29 points respectively.
But the Rockets struck back with a 126-121 overtime win at Game 3 in Houston.
The Rockets led by seven at the end of the third quarter. But Durant – who finished with 46 points – forced the game into OT with a huge fourth quarter. James Harden (41 points, 9 reb, 6 ast) came up with three big overtime buckets to clinch the win for the hosts.
Another key factor was the Rockets’ ability to shut down Warriors sharpshooter Steph Curry. Yet to really catch fire in these players, he shot 7-from-23 in one of the worst performances of his career.
The Rockets have a 5-4 home record against the Warriors in playoffs matches. Meanwhile, the heavyweights’ last six matches overall have been decided by six points or less.
Houston have won 17 of 18 at Toyota Center since the All Star break. The Rockets need to make their home games count – the series is effectively on the line for them in this game.
The Warriors are always a tempting underdog, but against a team the champs struggle against more than any other, backing another cliff-hanger looks like the way to go.
